Koala Queen Mattress $892.50 (15% off) + Free Shipping & Returns @ Koala

40

Went to upgrade mattresses and found it was 15% off so thought I'd share (whoops originally wrote 20%).

Bought my first Koala mattress for spare bedroom a month ago as a king single. Really liked it, comfy and same day delivery!

Decided to upgrade to a double and have now exchanged for a double bed, hassle free and again delivered same day as order.

I wasn't expecting much but their mattresses were surprisingly good but their exceptional service has made me happy to order again.

If it helps, I ordered at 6:15am this morning and received it by 11:30am (PS I'm in Brisbane).

If anyone is considering taking up their 120 night trial the return process was simple (see below copied from their support email to me).

      • a 4-hour time in these four hour windows: 9AM-1PM, 10AM-2PM, 11AM-3PM, 12PM-4PM, 1PM-5PM.
      • Your mattress will need to be packaged and sealed with tape in plastic bags, with none of the product exposed.
      • Your mattress is prepared as per original returns request, therefore the mattress needs to be folded in half and then secured with either tape, rope, or a piece of fabric
-You’ve written your order number on the tag underneath the mattress or on a piece of paper and attach to the mattress

Just what goes into these to make them better than ZZZ Atelier? I need to get rid of my ZZZ Atelier (only paid $200, great at first but doesn't last), and hesitant to buy a MIAB again. Had a look in Domayne and they have 55% off Sealy posturepedic, but they're still around 2k. Buying a mattress is so difficult, they're all made cheap and have huge markups.

    • sealy is made in australia

    • My 12 month old zzz atelier is getting saggier by the day too. Also keen on better suggestions.

    • how long have you had the zzz atelier? when you say they don't last, i thought they had a massive warranty? don't they honour their warranty?

    foam beds are really bad.

  • this or sleeping duck….tough choice…

Anyone asking - go a pocket sprung mattress. Foam is the worst for your back. It’s cheap shit.

And if you’re that desperate, go to ikea. 365 day returns =)

    • +1

      because 120 days isn't enough to make a decision ? :)

      • Because I can get 365 days with a pocket sprung =)

        • Best of both worlds is a pocket spring foam mattress. Unless you hate comfort that is ;-)

    • can really return a used bed?
then you can just buy another and use another year??

  • Anyone have personal experience with both koala and tempur?

If I wanted a cheap 'bed-in-a-box' mattress, I'd go for ZZZ Atelier. If i wanted a high end mattress, I'd go for Sealy. For what you get, Koala (as a whole) is priced too high.

    • +4

That is what I think too. If ZZZ Atelier can sell a MIAB for $200 and make profit, what makes the Koala worth $800+. Having a ZZZ Atelier has really turned me off MIAB, it sags over time and the lack of edge support is annoying. I was tempted by the Sealy but wonder if they're really worth the 2k (sale price) too.

      • Yeah, and these Koala mattresses are foam mattresses, they're horrible and bad for your back! I have a ZZZ mattress for 3 years and it's only started to sag a bit, it isn't that noticable. I reckon it could last me another year or so. Paid $300 for it, if it lasts for 4 years I'd say it's a bargain.

        • I paid $700 for a pocket spring that lasted me just over 14 years. I think zzz seems like it's a rip off then?

    • +1

We all know Sealy is a scam, untrustworthy company that rips it's clients off. No clue why anyone on OZB could say they consider sealy high end.

      • Sure at their regular price, but when it's heavily discounted, say 50% off then one should consider their mattress over a foam mattress in a box.

JUst grabbed an Eva mattress and like it so far(literally my fist nIght) it's a Spring With a foam layers the full foam ones like koala are a bit of a turn off for me though I have never slept on one, the Eva also turned out cheaper.

    • +1 for Eva. It has real springs and is much closer to a real mattress. Also very thick and sturdy. Have one in the spare room and it’s great. Next main one will be Eva.

Had the cheap zzz Atieler and it has no edge support, which was really annoying. It was thin and felt cheap. For $200 though, what did we expect.

    • Can you post a link to where its sold?

Just a heads up - this mattress sinks over time. Had them replaced my first Koala mattress (under warranty) but now the replacement sank (sunk? sinking?) too.

But yeah, I'd go for spring mattress as a main mattress. This might be ok for spare room/occasional use.

    • Yea it's how foam works.

Stay away from Koala mattresses, sink after a couple of months and bad for your back.
Bought a King and regret it

Is there literally anything more difficult than buying a mattress? So much at stake. So much choice. So much variation in price for differences that are difficult to see. Ugghhh.

    • Agree. Such a boring/uninspiring thing to buy let alone difficult.

We've been through two mattress in a box companies so far, both no good. Keep putting the old pocket spring one back, which is ten years old now.

  • My koala lasted a year before it sagged noticeably in the middle. Foam mattresses are also bad news if you are a hot sleeper as I am - in summer it was intolerable.

As someone mentioned, foam plus pocket spring is the way to go. Personally I tried Noa but found it too firm, went with Sleep Republic and am very happy.

I'm surprised they have such good reviews.

  • I ended up getting an Ecosa which is also on discount and has configurable firmness.

    • what's your opinion on Ecosa? would you have gone with a quality spring mattress for the same price?

      • Too early to say, it's been just a few weeks sleeping on it.
I would say give it a go and if you don't like it use their 100 nights return policy. That's what I'll do if it starts to sag but so far has been really good.

        • I would trial it until I heard the refund process usually goes ignored.

  • As well as their product not being very popular, they are virtue signallers. Go woke, go broke.
