      Serious question but…

where do you put all your lego models once you built them?

these model are quite expensive and don't have much replay value..
unless you gonna take it apart and rebuild again (which isn't really any point in doing this)

      • +2

You don't have a room dedicated to your own Lego city?

      • Next to Lego opera house and taj Mahal :P

      • +3

IKEA shelving. Have a couple of Kallax 5x5 as room dividers, the tops of which = 2x 182cm, enough to make a street for my 13 creator modulars.

        • Could you share photo plz?

          • +1

@cheapo999: Currently locked down in VIC so no recent pic, but each of the shelves looks something like this or this, except with no gaps and base plates to extend the 'road.'

      • +1

Haven't built most yet as our kids are little. Will build them together once they're older and probably set up a Lego room in the lounge.

      • +1

Until a few years ago we had all our modular ones in an Ikea display cabinet with the glass doors. Keeps the dust off. At the moment they have all been taken down and played with by the kids as a city game.

      • Dedicated LEGO room of course

      • For my modulars, I use the IKEA Lack coffee table, displaying 10 of my 15 modulars in a 4x3 rectangular formation.

Individual sets I use 2 of the 5x5 IKEA Kallax shelves.

Larger sets I built shelves on the walls to display them.

        • can you post some pics?

    • Do people who buy lego models $200 to $1000
see them as an investment to resell the models later on?

It is alot of money to spend just to leave it as a model on display.. or just shove in a closet somewhere..

The cost of lego models can buy a new phone, or new pc hardware etc..
that is regularly used and not just leave it on display on or in a closet.

      • The cost of lego models can buy a new phone, or new pc hardware etc..

Not everyone is a PC gamer, and how many phones does one need? I rarely sell Lego, and they've only been MISB doubles. I typically box up old UCS sets to make room for newer ones, but at least Lego can hold value unlike a phone that depreciates the second you buy it, particularly if it's not an iPhone.

        • so you plan to resell the models one day?

Lego keeps churning out these models, so how do the model you have double or hold value?
Like all these models keeps coming up on ozbargain..
only case is if Lego stops making a particular model, then the rarity would make them more valuable..
but even then, there would likely be thousands to million of the same model..so it would be that super rare except for a few..

PC hardware or phones is just example, but what I mean is they get used more like daily vs a model that is now just display piece
or just get shoved inside some storage container.
If you keep building all these models, sooner you can going to run out of space to put them on display, just then just get bin in some storage container in the attic/garage etc..

You only need one phone, but the money on these expensive models can be used to buy a better phone, if you are spending that much on lego each year..
And your question..can be said the same for lego models, you build one, then it gets store, build another it gets stored..yet there is no replay or reused value in the models once it is built.

I have built some cheapy lego model (less than $50), and while it was fun to build
once done it is now just that..no more use any more..no more replay any more..
I don't see how I can spend $200 to $1000 for a more expensive model when I know there is no replay value.

I also now have to put it somewhere on a shelf, and at some point the model fell down after an accident and I lost some pieces
I manage to find most of the pieces, and was lucky there was a spare piece in the set to fix the model.

          • @pinkybrain:

so you plan to resell the models one day?

No. I'm not an 'investor,' I buy to collect and display. The few that I've sold were always doubles and I've never had to sell at a loss.

Like all these models keeps coming up on ozbargain.. […] only case is if Lego stops making a particular model, then the rarity would make them more valuable.. but even then, there would likely be thousands to million of the same model..so it would be that super rare except for a few..

Not necessarily. While it's true that lately, sets are sold in much longer runs, e.g. UCS Death Star 75159 which is still selling 4 years on from its re-release vs 10188's 2 years, or the recent modulars vs Green Grocer, etc., if you follow Lego, you can have a rough idea of demand and buy accordingly. It's only in the last decade that TLG really wised up to the secondary market, but even superceded sets with demonstrable improved replacements like v1 Star Wars UCS vehicles will at least sell more than their RRP on collectability alone. Lego fandom is driven by FOMO.

And your question..can be said the same for lego models, you build one, then it gets store, build another it gets stored..yet there is no replay or reused value in the models once it is built.

Of course there is. Complete, loose sets will still sell. Without packaging and instructions, you won't get as much as MISB, but check on BrickLick. If you mean personal or aesthetic value, then I disagree.

I have built some cheapy lego model (less than $50), and while it was fun to build once done it is now just that..no more use any more..no more replay any more.. I also now have to put it somewhere on a shelf, and at some point the model fell down after an accident and I lost some pieces

Of course you won't get replay value out of one lonely set as an adult. For the record, I haven't lost a piece in years. My low value sets won't get bagged and numbered, they'll be disassembled and the bricks will go into buckets which I can then play around with or use in MOCs when I have the time. As Marie Kondo might say, that brings me joy. More than an RTX card or a marginally better phone.

          • @pinkybrain: A lot of modern built sets kept with original box and instructions can get 90% of the mint price . Last 3 modular building that retired have gone up in value from 100% To 300% . So good themes whether built or stored are smashing dough returns in the bank :)

            • @popsiee: do you have links for those models?

do you keep your models for resell one day or never sell it?

              • +1

@pinkybrain: Palace Cinema and Pet Shop are 2xRRP. Grand Emporium and Town Hall are being listed at more 3x how much I paid, with the trend being the older and 'bigger' the modular set is, the more it appreciates. After around Parisian Restaurant, TLG made more units and sold them for longer so I suspect they won't reach $1000+ pre-Town Hall or Fire Brigade prices, but they will rise too.

            • @popsiee: In order of recent retirements 10243 ( last one to retire in this theme ) , 10246 and 10251 .

      • Lego is an appreciating asset as often as it isn't.

Sets like this will easily keep their value and more, nevermind at a sales price like this.

Leaving that aside, having sets galore on display is awesome

I started collecting this series from the start. I sold Market St as wasn’t a big fan sealed in box for $1650 (bought about 5 years earlier for $250). I also had some green grocers which I sold for a good profit too. I originally bought some doubles/triples from UK as were $160 there at time vs $300+ here, to help fund the future purchases. I really wanted Cafe Corner and had to buy that second hand for $750…

My plan was to keep buying them all but it started getting too expensive to shell out $300 each time a new one got released.

Selling market st released the pressure of having to keep buying them!

        • Do you still have a spare set of the Green Grocer that you want to flip?

  • Disappears when adding to cart. Appears to be all gone.

  • Sold out :(

    • For collecting or resale?

    • +4

I get that people buy multiple. But I'm not super excited to hear from those people.

      • I’m with you. In fact I can’t see the motivation in telling others you bought 4 other than some bizarre attempt to boast.

      • Yup. Those people should lay low.

      • "They" seek attention. @bricky and @frugalnotstingy - that's any attention (good or bad) they can get.

        • I am not jealous nor envy as I already own this set. However, people who brag about they have just purchased multiple sets seem like rubbing it in for people that have missed out.

    • Why would you buy 4 in the middle of its life span? Will be years until you make money out of it. 3% mortgage rate for this a year is ~$10. Bad investment choice.

      • OP will be able to sell this set with no issues for $400 within a week of receiving it. That's a 33% ROI. Quick money for some.

        • +1

Lego shop is selling at $400. Why buy from OP?

  • Damn missed it

Wow. 🐪 🐪 🐪 is supposed to tell me about this. OzBargain alerts are too slow.

    • +5

I have camelcamel notification enabled too but even now it still hasn't detected the price drop.

Good thing I had Chrome plugin Distil Alert monitoring the text change on the price (checking every 5m). That notified me when I was on my computer so I jumped on it straightaway.

Been trying to get this for months!

      • Thanks, I might have to try that plug-in.

  • Kmart price match but impossible to get there too

    https://www.kmart.com.au/product/lego-creator-expert-assembl…

    • It let's you add it to the cart and then hits you with the bad news.

  • 200+ Units sold in 20mins. Crazy LEGO panic buy.

    • How are you able to tell it was so many? I only know that you can look and see if the have you to 30.

      • +1

After adding 30 to cart, change the number to max like 999, cart will tell the maximum you can purchase.

        • You bought 30?????

My hats off to you for having balls to invest like this, I be happy to get 2 (1 for me and 1 for sale later)

          • @Aerith-Waifu: TBH I didn’t even buy single one as I got mine during myer double stack ebay sale long time ago. Just a bit curious to see how the market is going as I know lots of people are interested in this particular set.

  • Damn, I badly want this one, and every time its on sale its gone by the time I get to it :(

  • thanks OP

I turn my back for a few seconds and this is what happens :)

  • "Not for sale to persons under the age of 16. By placing an order for this product, you declare that you are 16 years of age or over. This item must be used responsibly and appropriately."

Gee pretty strict on the 16+ recommendation!

I been on Ozbargain all day today, the min i went to the loo this happens……………

Are we suppose to hold our sh*t just to nab a bargain now?????

    :(

    • You still using a Nokia 3310 mate?

      • I don't take my phone when I go to the loo my dear darling friend, if I did, I would sit there for ages…………….LOL

  • Dammit

  • I guess the stock was less than 5.

    • stock was like 250+

  • This is the same price I paid for my set back in 2017. Great to see this price again.

  • This is by far my favourite of the series.
