Samsung Galaxy Note 20 4G 256GB $199 with 12 Month $99/Month Telstra Plan @ JB Hi-Fi

260

Greetings everyone, just spotted that JB have placed the Samsung Note 20 4G 256GB on promotion on their $99 Per Month 150gb Plan.

Considering that this plan has a $594 Early Termination Charge(cdn.shopify.com), you could essentially get the phone for $793 ($199+$594) (+pro-rated first month charge) if you cancelled the plan early :)

Think this is definitely the cheapest I've seen this phone before if you factor that in.

To be honest, not worth even in $793.
Only 8GB RAM, 60Hz display, Plastic body, Exynos processor, no 5G. There are better options available in this price.

    • The phone feels very cheap. Plastic was a poor decision.

      • +5

I guess on a bright side, some folks probably prefer plastic because you don't have to worry about glass back shattering/ cracking? Good for those who opt to go no case… I supposed.

        • +7

Yeah and with a case you can't tell the difference anyway

          • @jamestownfx: I always use a case so it neither here nor there for me, but I have the 10 plus and happy with it

          • @jamestownfx: Its not about whether one likes plastic or glass, as everyone uses a case. Its about such a high price being charged for a device, which isn't anywhere near flagship built quality or specs. I am happy to use plastic, but then the price should be for a plastic built not premium built.

            • @OZBsince2018: I guess your idea of plastic price and premium price is different to Samsung's

              • +1

@jamestownfx: Its simple logic. Plastic built costs less compared to a gorilla glass built, hence, should be priced accordingly.

        • +2

Yep. My current phone is the first glass back I've had since I had an iPhone4 for work. Glass back cracked within two months of owning it. All my previous cheap phones have been dropped dozens of times and never broken. I'll avoid buying a glass cased phone again, it's just not a good material to make a portable device out of. We've been tricked into thinking it's "premium" when it's really just fragile.

    • But at $793, I think the price is right. Because otherwise I'd be paying something like $1000 more for the Ultra model, and for what? A 120hz screen (at FHD only) and 5x zoom, that's probably the only material difference. The extra 4gb of RAM might keep more apps running in the background, but it doesn't make the phone faster.

  • I called JB they said 349 for the note 20

    • The 5G is 349. The 4G is 199

      • is it worth the 5G for an extra $150?

        • No. Only difference is 4G vs 5G, apart from that you don't get any increased storage, RAM or battery capacity.

          • @OZBsince2018: The plan includes 5G coverage, the Telstra 4G speed in my area is 300mb/s, I think i can save the extra $150 for just getting the 4G model. I dont think i need more than this speed for my mobile usage.

Will most likely get removed due to the same pricing error that hit the Note20 Ultra.

  • Unless it is free, otherwise won’t be bother to touch any Sammy phones with exynos chips. Crap as shit.

Guys out of curiosity, is this phone locked to Telstra only ? or is it given unlocked as a separate device which you can use on any network. can someone please confirm me this ?

    • no

    • I got Note 9 from JB via Telstra deal. Phone is not Telstra Branded. Its just JB ph, with a deal from telstra on it for porting.

      • frustrating to be living at Melbourne right now to missing out on all these deals :(

        • +2

Lets teamup to call JB after 13th to run this deal for Metro Melbourne.

    • $99 plan w/ $10 monthly credit. So $89/mo for those keeping the plan, I suspect those who terminate early won't get all the remaining monthly credits though.
  • Does anyone understand why the note version is cheaper than the older s20 version?

On the deals page (the top slider specials)

    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/jb-mobile-instore

you have what the Op has described, total $1,267

But after that there is the 5g version, total $1,417
I checked the SKU code its the link below

    Retail $1,649
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-note20-5g-…

But after that, you hve the Galaxy s20 version, on the special page it doesn't say +, but the SKU leads to the plus version

    retail $1,499
But the special total is $1,787
    https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/samsung-galaxy-s20-128gb-…

Can Someone explain why the note which is a newer release so much more cheaper?

    • Probably because they recently the $200 upfront on the s20+. I hope they re-advertise it in the weeks to come.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/557866

    • maybe S20 has a better spec?

    • It's got bad press because plastic back and 60hz refresh rate and FHD only. If you don't mind those things then honestly i think this is a great deal. Just got one and so far it's pretty good. Most underrated phone of the year i reckon.

      • which one did you get? 4G/5G?
I may go sign up tomorrow.

        • I got the 4G version. (No 5G in my area and if i am not sticking with Telstra, no point paying for what I won't use). Sorry for the late reply.

      • 120hz and higher resolution will drain more battery. I just like the flat screen, I am using S8 and always worry about dropping the phone and hit the curved edge.

Anyone in Melbourne has contacted one of the store to extend the deal past stage 4 restriction?

  • Has anyone had any luck getting this deal over the phone rather than going to the store?

Anyone had experience with the 1080p resolution on the Note20? Other than a few minor variances from the Galaxy lineup, that seems to be the biggest concern for me. Thinking about purchasing for my wife. Cheers

    Thanks. Bought 2 :)

  • When does the offer end?

  • This offer finished last Sunday, just wondering if anyone knows if I can still avail it somehow or somewhere ?
    Thanks
