Is it fair to mention vouchers/discount fist when..

Hi, this may have been covered before, but its something that bugs me and probably a few others.

  • You buy a $400 photography voucher, and you must quote it first before booking
  • You get a supersaver deal out of the junk mail for $30 off lawn mowing, must mention voucher first.
  • Steam cleaning for the whole house, half price, mention the add

To me it seems pretty obvious the price is going to go up once mentioned.

I tried it with the local lawn mower, 2 different locations(close by) same amount of grass, same length, consistency & access. one was $35 difference, guess which one..

Another example, i have a Best Western rewards card for work, it offers 10% all Avis car hire, using their code. I went to Avis online and quoted a week long car hire with and without the code, $2 difference!

Would it be nice to get a quote/invoice, then apply the voucher/discount off the final price?

But I guess your question/this discussion is more general and not limited to those daily group buy deals.

  • +1

Easy, don't mention the voucher/discount until you get the final price. They will honour it, otherwise they risk not getting paid anything for the work they've done.

  • IMO 100% of voucher deals that require showing the voucher first are doing it for a specific reason.

Just because you are happy with your purchase when showing the voucher before it doesn't mean that something different didn't happen.

The whole point is to save costs, lower customer priority etc without YOU knowing.

All the negative expieriences from group buy vouchers etc are not on purpose, the whole point was to treat you differently without you knowing.

When I look at most group buy purchases or vouchers, I can often see a good reason not to do it, the savings are normally not as worth it as they appear.

This shouldn't be suprising anyway, the only places I have seen that REQUIRE the voucher first are poor quality and likely about to go bankrupt.

Remember, there is a reason you don't see decent photography places do these vouchers, this applies to most vouchers of this type.

  • Nothing wrong with ringing and asking what the price is, then when you decide to book, you quote the voucher.

If they say oh you cant get the "discount" then just dont go ahead with the booking
