400TC 100% Cotton Fitted Sheet - Queen $25 / King $27 @ Kmart (Nationwide)

3300

Hey Team!

After years on the search for the best cost:quality bed sheets I think I've completed my study. Tried Sheridan, Ettitude (rubbish), Target and countless others and surprisingly, I've ended up with Kmart as my go to.

These sheets are 100% cotton (don't waste your time with 'cotton blend'). The whole thread count thing is a bit of a sham, especially for a lot of non reputable sellers. The Kmart 400TC here seems like a smoother and better quality sheet than a lot of the '1000TC' sheets I've used. And most importantly they're only 25 bucks. For comparison sake even the king size version of this is only $2 more, at $27 here. Incredible value.

There are a bunch of colours:

White

Blue

Silver

Pink

If you're not in a Kmart area, free shipping kicks in at $45. In that case I suggest getting either two of the sheets or combining the sheet with two of the same style 400TC 100% cotton pillow slips.

This deal is in the same vein as Dominos Pizza's $5 value range and the beloved $150 Boost yearly deal (RIP), just because they're RRP, doesn't mean it is not a bargain.

Just wanted to share, since my little family find these sheets perfect and they're comparatively so much cheaper and better than others. Hope it helps someone :)

I don't know about the cotton blend thing, I was converted to bamboo years ago and could never go back.

The silkiest bamboo sheets are the MyHouse Riley set, but I was only ever able to get them for sub-$100 once, so I started looking elsewhere.

My current fave is the Gioia Casa set from Catch, $45 for a queen. The best thing about these is that they have a 'mega' size option for the same price as the regular, which just means 10cm deeper fitted sheets, so no more struggling to fit them on my mattress: https://www.catch.com.au/product/gioia-casa-bamboo-cotton-me…

    • Are they truly bamboo fibre in the sheets though?

Most textiles marked as bamboo use the cellulose from bamboo to chemically produce a synthetic like rayon, so no different to any other synthetic blend.

No evidence to suggest the often touted antibacterial properties of bamboo are present in the final product either.

“when bamboo is processed into rayon, no trace of the original plant is left”

      See www.biome.com.au/blog/is-bamboo-fabric-plastic/

      • Honestly i'm very for Bamboo however it is used in marketing. Ever since that pack of underwear i got from aldi…. they felt great.

What i want are some Modal sheets.

        • Nothing against synthetic textiles for the right use.

If you like your bamboo undies then that's great.

Might get the same level of satisfaction from other synthetic underwear, priced cheaper without the "bamboo" marketing though.

Just pointing out that the enviro-friendly, natural, body-friendly, anti-bacterial marketing surrounding "bamboo" is not a very truthful representation of what the product actually is.

I also strongly suspect that "bamboo" sheets from the likes of Catch are more marketing and synthetic material than they are natural fibre. You may therefore be paying more than you would for the same type of synthetic/cotton blend that doesn't have "bamboo" in the dubious marketing description surrounding these products.

          Caveat emptor!

@opposablethumbs: While I do agree that a lot of marketing around bamboo is clearly misleading, I doubt anyone paying $45 for a queen sheet set would think this is the organic, eco-friendly stuff, at least not if they're an OzBargainer…

I recommended it purely because, from my experience, it's the softest, best quality sheet for the price (and that includes the 'bamboo' markup!)

            • @lostcabbie: Fair enough.

You never know though, other synthetic blends might get you as good a quality and comfort cheaper, if you don't have the "bamboo" marketing levy. Just that "rayon/cotton" blend probably won't sell as well, even though performance-wise might be identical.

In the end though, everyone's preferences are different and it has value if the buyer gets satisfaction out of it.

I'm still using some 1000TC, 100% cotton sateen sheet sets (1 x fitted, 1 x flat, 2 x pillow sleeps) bought on sale from Target (or maybe Kmart) over a decade ago for about the $40 mark. I know how dubious the whole thread count thing is as well, but these have felt good from the start and continue to keep on keeping on, with only some minor colour fading. For the price I can't complain about the quality or longevity, even if the thread count was not exactly truthful.

For sheets, I think that we can both probably agree, spending a bit more on quality will save you money in the long run and enhance the chance of a good night's rest :-).

  • Can anyone recommend where to get good quality King size quilt / pillow cover sets without spending a fortune (Sheridan)?

I strongly disagree with ettitude sheets being bad. However, the rollova bamboo sheets are fine too, and were a fair bit cheaper.

I much prefer bamboo's temperature regulation - if it's hot, they manage to stay cool, if it's cool, they manage to be warm. They also feel nice and soft with a silky texture. That alone justifies them for me. I sleep in them every day - why let a rather small cost compromise good sleep?

Great find OP! Thanks for sharing… how's all the flogs who think this isn't a "bargain" just because it isn't on some sort of sale or markdown 😂 spare me

Why do people think something is not a good deal if its not discounted?

Are you used to paying $25 for decent cotton sheets?

If so please tell me where the hell from

    (other than Kmart)

Target Supima selection is also reasonably good. At least it uses pima cotton and have 400TC too. Give it a try if you haven't. I bought them for kids, cheap and good.

      • Came here to say the same. Really love mine and the cost is very reasonable considering it's Pima cotton.

      • They seem to get bad reviews on the Target website though?

        • I find them okay personally, and my kids didn't complain abt them other than the dull designs. They are pretty cheap so not expecting much.

          • @truetypezk: Supima is definitely a good quality cotton.

            • @bogstation: Yeah normally I am not a fan of Target sheets but decided to give them a try exactly because they claim to be Supima cottons.

  • If you're looking at sheets, DriGlo is the go for quality. You can find them at Harris Scarf and Spotlight.

  • exfoliating thread count…

  • Holy Sheet! Not a bad price for sheets

  • How is it after a wash?
Does it have beads on it and feel rough?
That’s what I find with poor quality bed sheets.

First use is fine. After a wash. Regret.

    • What I hate is the fitted sheet shrinks after wash and it no longer fits the mattress.

      • Which sheet doesnt shrink? I want to know genuine question

we know the thread count, but do we know how many cores it has???

  • Thanks OP, will look for it when I visits Kmart.

  • Shame they have no king single

  • Some excellent bargains in menswear,if anyone wants to get the order up to $45.
    Peacoat $30
    Green puffer jacket $20
    Field jacket $25

  • Thanks OP, got a pair

    OP
Did you compare the Pakistan 400 thread to the Australian 500 thread?
    https://www.kmart.com.au/category/home-&-living/home-by-cate…

    • OP: I'm sorry. I'm in the penalty box

      • ?
        How did that happen?

  • Thanks OP, I love good finds like these. It’s not everyday when you have someone whose actually went and tried out products and concluded which one is worth your money. Unfortunately, too much marketing nowadays, and sometimes brands forget that the important factor is quality for the right price!

    Other Kmart bargains:

A2 picture frames make any art work / poster print look fresh.

The home maker glass kettle is one of the best kettles I used.

    • We used to have one of the kettles, but the spout always dribbled a bit when pouring. Eventually gave up on it and got a Breville.

  • No king single

  • No double size?

I'd dismissed them due to low thread count & price but will definitely give a go. Thanks OP.

  • Have only used these sheets since forever and can vouch these are the best in terms of quality.

I used to like sheets from Target which cost $30 for queen bed with 500tc(https://www.target.com.au/p/target-5-thread-count-australian…), its much better than this one. Too bad they don't have it anymore.

  • Anyone know how these compare to the IKEA sheets? Similar price.

  • Ignore all the thread count numbers you see in marketing. Because a "thread" could be a braid of 3 lines twisted together to make 1 thread or some other combination.
Some manufacturers might count this as a single thread (usually higher quality ones) where an ebay seller might say that's 3 threads.

It's like calling your cat5e cable 8 thread count cable.

Hence its all marketing speak with no real definition. So 400tc could very easily be over 1000tc depending on brand.

  • I got the 500 count set for $52-53? 2 pillow covers and flat sheet are a bonus. I don't use flat sheets (have a ton of them) but pillow covers are important. They use Australian Cotton for those but made in PRC.

What is the measurement size for the thread count

  • i purchased a 500 TC sheet cotten sateen set a couple years back and they are one of the best sets i have. Absolutely love them. From memory the set was $50

    • Where did you buy them?
      Kmart?
      Target?

      • +1

Kmart when their homewares brand was home&co

  • Thanks!! Gonna buy some at Kmart now!

if you're going to buy low thread counts, better get bamboo as it is softer and silkier at low thread counts than cotton. if you want cotton, go for high thread counts as low thread counts like this is rubbish and easy to thin and break.

    • Bamboo = rayon = synthetic (probably blended with cotton).

Fine to go for synthetic blends at lower thread count if that suits you, just as long as you are not being duped by all the less than truthful marketing hype surrounding "bamboo" textiles.

    • Wow. You really should check these out before voicing an opinion. Thread count is not a reliable metric for judging quality anymore and saying they are rubbish because they are only 400TC is amateurish. OP has obviously done his research. You should too.

  • +1

Just a heads up, they don't sell flat sheets by themselves (afaik) to go with the fitted sheet. So you'd need to pick one up in a pack to get it. Target do sell the flat sheets though.

Bought the kmart fitted sheet (actually 2 by accident) based on this recommendation and can say its good, wrinkles more than my previous polyester mix sheets. They're not heavy like a hotel sheet, but dry quickly so they're exactly what I want at home.

  • thank you OP! I will give these a try since I kind of ripped one of my bed sheet covers … it ripped in the middle since its pretty old now and I kinda of roll around so it just gave up. I have tried to sew it back together but it kind of ripped towards the sides too so it looked turned out very botched
