$170 for a rain jacket that is not even goretex?

    • +2

It's allegedly better than Goretex as it's not a membrance - the whole single layer is permeable
This means its more flexible and less prone to failure
The breathability is better than Goretex (all types that I've seen)
The waterproofness seems to be comparable.

I've had multiple Gore-Tex jackets over the last couple of decades, and they're great but have some limitations.
This purchase for me was mostly about comfort with decent performance.

    • Most of North Face items are pretty over-priced imo

But what I found was, if you find products where the logos aren't the "classic white" colour - they're generally a lot cheaper. Worthwhile to get those variants, because they're more or less the same.

      • There's a definite brand price premium.
They've also moved away from doing top notch outdoor performance gear, towards more fashion oriented things overall (Supreme colab anyone?)
But I've never had any problems with anything I've bought from them, and I do like their stuff.

        • While I do agree that some of their stuff is good-quality (bought my favourite backpack from them), it's still quite pricey when you compare other brands (e.g. on the topic of backpacks, Macpac or even some Kathmandu ones can provide better bang for your buck). The 10-year guarantee on my backpack (or at least, that's what I remember it being) was a strong pro for North Face though.

Their "fashion-oriented" things are generally where things become over-priced. For example, a simple black tee with a big fat logo on the back was something like $45 at their factory outlet in Birkenhead Point, Sydney.

    • Lots of outdoor brands have lately been developing their own inhouse waterproof fabrics that are able to compete with goretex

  • $244 if you prefer New Taupe Green and want to buy locally / try it on (or try The North Face stores)

I hate when clothing companies market the word ''tech'' to make it appear more fancy.

    • +1

It has 4 external and three internal pockets to store all your bitcoins.

      • TNF and their revolutionary pockets.

  • (It seems erkek means male in Turkish)

but it's not black. need a black one for my Dandrews cosplay.

  • +1

I should apologise for saying it is not goretex. I went with ASOS's desc that just said polyester.

Futurelight is TNF's tech material (like goretex)
Their highend snow gear are labeled Futurelight, like the Freethinker snow jacket. I have the older goretex version
