  • Is there a 27" with the same other specs for cheaper? Struggling to find one

  • +1

OzBargain's favourite monitor is back again!!

    • Just wondering - how come this monitor is so great?

      • +5

I think it's because there arent really any other 1440p 34" 144hz monitors at this price. I want one but I'm waiting for it to drop below $500 personally

        • Not curved ones anyway.

      • +4

Basically because it's the cheapest ultra wide (with specs that are worth getting) and it's better than some ultra wife's with similar spec that are more expensive.

        • +22

I need to get one of those ultra wifes

          • @drakarn_123: Sorry, I thought this was an ad for myrealdoll, but both are pretty good

          • @drakarn_123: Get one of these monitors instead - apparently they are better.

        • +6

ultra wife's with similar spec that are more expensive.

          Mistresses.

      • +4

Lol ahhhh why on earth would u use this as a ps4 monitor, all specs I tell you it will be bad. Stick to Sony TVs for ps4s

        • -7

I connected it to both Mac and PS4. You also get unnecessary blank on the left and the right when you watch Netflix and Movie. Hahaha

          You haven’t used it yet?

          • +4

@[Deactivated]: You clearly didn't do your research before purchasing. No one would purchase an ultrawide with the intent use it with the PS4. Also the Netflix app for windows does 21:9.

You might want to look into getting a regular PC.

      • yes my old PC from 2000 would struggle using this 1440p monitor as well
have you considered there are a massive population of gamers on PC… especially professional ones who play FPS games…

      • +1

I agree that this is recently Ozbarganers' favourite.

This monitor is not too wide which does fit to existing game except for consoles like PS4, which does not support the 21:9 ratio and just enlarge to the large width. 16:9 is also too wide to PS4. Furthermore, 21:9 would exaggerate the width and make the game screen ugly if you only play console games. Also, Old mac might not show the 3440×1440 properly without 3party utility so I would use a different monitor or upgrade to a new Mac.

So I would say this monitor is not for Console Game but for someone who need actually wide window like PC gamers, music console or wide excel sheet.

Ummm… you really should do some research before spending $600 on a monitor like this.

  • +3

Anyone who bought this before can you please give me some details about your experience ? Is it worth it ? Picture quality etc?

    • It is good, fast, fair monitor. I like the build quality and stand. Colours are ok and I am still killing a lot at Counter Strike. I can't see why buy something else as this is a bang for your budget

      • +1

I returned it. When playing cs after flicking from dark to bright places the smearing is annoying as (profanity).

        • +1

My thoughts as well with my Samsung VA panel. Absolutely cannot stand it. Luckily got one of those dell 27"s on the way!

        • +1

Did you adjust the response time setting at all as that does some "overdrive" stuff with the pixels to compensate for the ghosting and it practically removed all of it for me personally when I was playing CS.

    • +4

I bought it from the Banggood offer earlier. Besides taking ages to get here it's been fantastic, very happy.

VA response times are a little low, as you would expect, but the smearing is very manageable and not noticable at all outside of dark scenes (those complaining of smearing may not have overdrive set correctly). Colours are fantastic (big improvement over my other monitor which is IPS). Build quality is excellent for the price.

Freesync works with g-sync for most games, but have noticed some flickering in just one or two. They're both games where I get a little microstuttering so that's probably why.

Only thing I noticed is a slight loss of visual quality (can just very slightly see rows of pixels - probably wouldn't even notice unless you were super picky) at 144hz, although could easily be something else with my hardware. I swapped it down to 120hz and it's been perfect.

My flatmate has a Acer Predator Gaming X34, and comparing them side by side I'd never pay the extra $700 for his. Less smearing from the improved IPS performance, plus better g-sync compatability with more games, but worse colours (especially blacks on ips!!) and obviously much more expensive.

If you have any specific questions let me know, happy to answer them.

      • I have that 144hz issue too! Had to set at 120 and text is now clear. For me there was definitely a downgrade from my XB270HU in terms of colours (VA vs IPS) but I’ll get used to it.

I only have a 980 at the moment though so might be the 144hz issue

        • I'm not sure about what's causing the wierd issue at 144hz. Either DP issue or just a quirk with the monitor. For the price though happy to accept that as the only real issue.

Interesting that you think the colours are a downgrade, they've been really good for me. Although, my old (now second) monitor is a very gaming oriented IPS so perhaps it doesn't have the greatest colour coverage either.

The VA blacks, and lack of backlight bleed, makes movies and cinematic games much more enjoyable for me personally, I really can't stand that aspect of IPS.

    • +2

I recently got it after a lot of waivering between this and waiting for the LG ultradwides to go on sale (which would still be $600+ more).

      I really like it.

      Smearing

There is some smearing (even on high overdrive) but it's better than my previous VA panel (a AOC 24 inch G1 144hz).

It may depend on how sensitive you are to it, and what mointor your coming from. If you currently have a 144hz IPS or TN panel the smearing may annoy you. If you currently have a 60hz IPS or TN panel, I think youll be fine with this. Even though there is smearing it's still way faster than a 60hz panel.

      Colours

It's a bit more vibrant than my previous mointor (a AOC 24 inch G1 144hz) and you can set the colourt depth to 10bit (but i think it is 8 + dithering).

Black actually look black which is the adavntage of a VA, rather than the very dark grey they look on IPS and TN panels. I wouldn't under estimate how important contrast ratio is for a good looking image. Rtings puts it as one of the most important factors. This is why all the best high end TV's other than OLED's use VA's. Of course the comprimse is repsonse times and to a lesser extent viewing angles.

      Viewing Angels

Wide enogh for me and the curve helps. Not as wide as an IPS, but how many people use a ultrawide mointor side on.

      Brightness

Way brighter than my previous mointor which is great, and enough so i can see the screen fine with with the large window next to me open (might not be in summer).

      Antiglare

Personally i hate mointors with super agressive anti-glare, i think it makes images look grainy. Thankfully this has fairly light anti-glare coating. Not glass levels, but light enogh it doesn't irrate me.

      Black light bleed and flickering

I haven't noticed much it is a bit brighter around the edges, but i think this varies a bit between panels. I also haven't had flickering yet (have a RX 5700 XT).

      Freesync

Seems to be working well. The panel reports a freesync window of 48-144hz.

      Recommended Setting

Turn on Freesync. Turn overdrive to high (it's not that agressive so i haven't noticed overshoot even on high).

Also make sure you actually change the refresh rate on your computer in Display Setting to 144hz. Windows won't defaut to 144hz.

      • +1

What a legend!, thank for taking time to give me such in depth information. Will probably buy one for daily productivity and PS game.

  • Is it G-sync compatible?, or are ppl just taking their chances, I can't believe they all have AMD graphics cards

    • On a previous post people said it was

    • Yes but there's screen flicker which seems to occur if your fps drops below 30. Happens in game menus, full screen videos etc for me.

    • Nvidia supports freesync on pascal or above, so 10xx series or higher, so yes it will if you have a new ish card

    • +1

it's not officially g-sync compatible, however from my testing (15-20 games so far) it has worked well in almost all. Has the same issues as proper g-sync though, like flickering at low FPS.

A couple of games I noticed flickering in was due to microstutter, so it doesn't seem to handle that too well, although neither does my g-sync monitor.

The price needs to be superb for me to get something from a dubious store from eBay.

    • Pay with PayPal and if the seller doesn't resolve issues and eBay also don't (unlikely) then you can turn to PayPal

if buy on taobao it will be 400aud and find a transit company ship here by sea will cost like $30 xD

    • +1

Start a business and import a thousand of these and sell at $500. Make a killing.

      • Not really. $430 + shipping + whatever cut ebay/amazon takes.

        • lol even if made $25 profit per unit that wouldn't be good enough if you sold 1,000?

        • need to take into consideration of import duty, custom clearance ect.

    • Do you need to order using a dropshipper or can you just buy it directly from Taobao?

      • +1

buy it directly from Taobao and free shipping to transit company in china and pay for the ship fee ship to au and pick up at their company in au, thats how i buy cheap things, like most chinese in australia will do

        • So you just order it from Taobao and input your Australian address in the shipping address, then what happens after you pay for the item?

          • @WinstonWithAY: buy urself on taobao and input their company address in china and name is your client number. and rest is pay for the ship fee and pick up at their warehouse 1 month later

            • @yty1997628: Input Taobao's address? Also as Dezeption said it's an electronics item so won't they likely just reject it?

              • @WinstonWithAY: just input their company warehouse in china, i dont think they reject privite use electronics items. I shipped a lot of electronics items before.Just make sure the good value lower than $1000 otherwise have to pay tax.

                • @yty1997628: Yeah I don't know if it's worth it. The fact I have to use Google translate, which is super scuffed just to read what's on the site and have to go through a forwarder as well, it's just anxiety inducing especially when making a purchase over $400. I'll probably just wait for this to drop below $500 and buy it from a website I can actually read. Thanks for the help anyway

                  • @WinstonWithAY: just find a chinese friend it will be easy buy a alot of things

                    • @yty1997628: LMAO shipping a monitor overseas. Riskiest thing ever. No refunds if they (profanity) it up

                • +1

@yty1997628: Lol when is the last time you ordered anything. The $1000 threshold is long gone. You get taxed on 1c now

          • @WinstonWithAY: Taobao don't like shipping mains powered items due to aus regs, alot of them time they or the drop shipper will cancel it

        • I just got this monitor… it took about 1.5mths to arrive from taobao. Connected it and no issues, it is all working.

          • @5M1L3Y: Can you pm me the shipping company please? I am thinking of doing the same as you did just need find a good shipping company with experience of posting monitors. Thanks.

      • +6

$430+$40 shipping plus a lot of time wasted, possible warranty issues, waiting weeks for delivery + finding a china freight company + a lot of other issues. Just pay another $100 with an aus supplier and skip all the hassle.

How does this compare to this? (LG 34" FHD 34WN650-W 34" 75Hz Ultra-Wide Full HD HDR FreeSync IPS Monitor - $549.00) https://cplonline.com.au/monitors/lg-monitor/lg-34-fhd-34wn6…

If use case is for web, movies, video editing and very little to no gaming, would this LG's IPS be a better pick over Xiaomi Mi's 144Hz?

    • +2

      FHD vs QHD

    • +2

Curved vs Flat surface. Wide monitor at this size is much better curved I think.

    • that LG is 2560 x 1080. Lower resolution than the Xiaomi. Not great for a 34". At 34" you'd want 3440 x 1440 resolution

    • +4

Short answer: xiaomi eats this LG for the breakfast

  • These are about $400 in China.

Time to move to China… No one said ever.

      • +3

It's actually not too bad living in China as long as you you stay out of politics.

        • +6

tell that to Hong Kong people and the Uyghurs people

          No freedom of speech
          Great China firewall
          No free press
          Ethnic cleansing
How the virus in Wuhan was able spread so quickly..(hint: Doctors alert of the virus were suppress and they were locked up)

And whatever else that is shit about living under one of the most controlled communist government in the world…

          • -4

@pinkybrain: No country is perfect, especially when trying to govern 1.4 billion people. I agree with the many issues you have pointed out, but these issues are complicated and there are underlying reasons for those actions. Xinjiang had a complicated history of extremists and terrorism. I think the level of control is there to manage the vastly different cultures and the large population of its people, so conflicts rarely happen. Hence harmony is China's main theme these days.
It's good that these issues are raised so they could be improved and addressed, but we should not be so blind as to think most aspects of China is bad when in fact it is not.

          • @pinkybrain: Can't tell if you're pinky or the brain rn, do you seek world domination?

          • @pinkybrain: you gotta say most countries dgaf about the virus and only cared when it hit them hard ( when its too late) . every one did the "it wont happen to us" motto.

            • +1

              @astarman: most countries dgaf?
which countries are you referring to when you say most?

your generalize statement is not accurate..

The virus when it was still in china was so new that most leaders/countries/doctors did not know enough about how infectious it was..

It is all to do with the leaders of those countries that make the decisions..
The countries that have the worst outcome so far, had crap leaders who didn't act quickly cos they thought it was just like the flu e.g. Trump, Boris Johnson, Jair Bolsonaro
While others like Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam have less outbreak cos the leaders acted more quicker and stronger lockdown….

The leaders of those countries primary factor in their decision making was: locking down early vs keeping the economy running.

Also countries that experience SARs, H1N1 outbreak etc..ie the asian countries acted quickly cos they knew how dangerous it is from the last outbreak.

Not to mention WHO didn't help either when they also were just acting as a mouthpiece for china in the early stages of the outbreak

  • "Will Ship Around 23rd August From Melbourne." - seems likely =\

becareful guys, this seller even though same as Gearbite, only provides one year warranty when I asked. Better pay a bit more for a full 3 year official warranty.

    • +1

On the Gearbite website and the official Xiaomi website it says 2 years though. Maybe the rep you talked to is wrong?

      • I thought because they're the same company, they would provide the same warranty. But when I messaged them (Oz Accessory) thru eBay they said only 1 year. Official Xiaomi's eBay store carries full 3 years warranty.

        • +2

          Monitor have two years warranty.

  • Does this thing have a VESA mount, if so what are the dimensions?

    • +1

      Yes, 100x100mm VESA mount.

    • Yup vesa supported. Have mine on a F80 at the moment. Going to buy a F100A though

      • Is the monitor too heavy for the f80? Do you know how heavy is the monitor?

        • I have only had it on it for a day seems fine so far, time will tell I guess. I think it’s definitely under the weight limit for the F80 (9kg) but going to go the F100A for piece of mind

  • Is this a USB c monitor?

    • No. It only has 2x HDMI 2.0 ports, 2x DisplayPort 1.4 ports and a 3.5mm audio out.

  • Also would this be compatible quality as Dell monitors? I've used 32 Dell curved with similar specs and it's pretty good.

  • I have this one but have no idea how to get the speaker working. Is there one internally at all? Can it be set up via Bluetooth on win 10? Can any one pls explain how. Thanks.

    • +2

Lmfao no there is no speaker. There is only a audio out
