Help ! Trying to get rid of this

Hello everyone,

I needed to know how to get rid of melted plastic from bathroom sink wall. my wife’s hair straightner melted the suction cup from the holder and now i can’t seem to get rid of it.

The wall is laminate on the bathroom.

I have tried wd , with a scraper already. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

  • Looks like whatever the suction cup was affixed to has actually melted.

    • Yes that is correct it has melted.

      • I don't think you are scraping that off, looks like the laminate has bubbled.

    Razor blade?

  • maybe some context… take a zoomed out photo so we can see where in the bathroom this is.

i highly doubt this is laminate

nail polish remover works on adhesive. because its melted plastic, you'll need to heat it up to close to its melting point (170C, 150-160C should be fine) to more effectively scrape it off.

However, this is likely to damage your laminate (usually heat resistant up to 180C). Getting a controlled temperature to heat it is also very difficult.

I'd start with using a hair dryer to heat it up and scrape it off with a wooden spatula.

Can you freeze it so it's brittle and then use a razor blade scraper or broad blade wood chisel?

Yes put your bathroom sink in the freezer.

      • Locktite Freeze & Release or Protech Freeze Spray are probably easier. $15/can

So it looks to be melted plastic on melted plastic - or it’s just the vanity surface that has melted.

Might need to resort to sanding it or to slicing it off with a chisel.

      Agree.
Sand fine grit around the area.
Maybe a repaint in gloss to try hide it.

    • Ah cool. Will try and do that. Now off to bunnings website i go .

Thanks for all the feedback everyone.
