Is Staub Dutch Oven Worth It?

Staub dutch oven is on sale at the moment. I have the aldi dutch oven but it’s a bit small for my family of 5 so I was looking at Staub 28cm. I also have lodge bare cast iron pot but I can’t really cook any acidic food over a long period of time in it otherwise it’s great. The Staub pot is a bit pricy at $260, what would you recommend me to do? Should I wait for a better sale or is it as good as its gonna be? Thanks

  • Buy another aldi dutch oven save $235

    • Thatd be great but I cant fit 2 dutch ovens in my oven :((

    • we bought an aldi one many years ago - no issues and cant quite imagine how much better it could be for $300+..

  • I've had a 26cm Staub (Cocette) for about 10 years and highly rate it.

Think I paid around $250 for it back then too.

I find the lid really helps at keeping the moisture circulating with it's ripples and dimples, compared to the plain ones (Aldi).

    • How is the matte enamel interior holding up with uses (wood vs metal utensils)? Also do you know if preheating empty staub dutch oven in an oven affects the enamel coating?

      • The internal enamel is ok, I did go through a seasoning process although I don't think it was really needed.

I have wooden and silicon utensils to use with it, but have occasionally used metal and haven't noticed any damage.

I believe it is recommended not to heat it empty in the oven. Having said that I've done it a few times and haven't seen any changes to the external enamel. It still looks relatively new having been used on an electric stove, gas stove, and oven over the years.

dammit - I came here thinking this was about the other kind of dutch oven!
