  • which one more reliable?

    • +1

MX500 is the higher end of the two - has DRAM cache, so it will run faster and have a longer life (arguably anyway as the WD Green is a bigger drive)

      • arguably anyway as the WD Green is a bigger drive

That's an interesting point, but people tend to fill up the disks to their near full capacity anyway.

  • Happy with both here.

Ordered WD green and the auto recommended cable. Hopefully this speeds up my laptop now.

    • If you are replacing your existing laptop hard drive, you won't need to buy that cable.

      • Yes, i am replacing my existing hard drive on dell inspiron. How do I transfer my old data to the new one along with the windows copy? Should i cancel the cable order?

        • +1

you need the cable to clone your hard drive

You can use 3rd party software to do this (I do).

I use Macrium Reflect, very popular and well known. YOu can get a 30 day free trial that will do what you need.
Ideally you will need a Sata USB Caddy to connect the new drive into your laptop via the USB ports.
          (Something like this.. https://www.ebay.com.au/i/113220805011?chn=ps&norover=1&mkev…)

          1. Download and install software on the machine
          2. Create a bootable USB stick and shut down the laptop
          3. Connect new SSD using caddy.
          4. Boot into bootable USB stick made in with Macrium.
          5. Select clone option from the menu options
          6. Select source (current drive) and select destination (new SSD)
          7. Wait till its done… this may take a while
          8. Shut down machine
          9. Take out old HD and replace newly cloned SSD
          10. Boot up and enjoy :)

@kalakaar: No worries 😊 happy to help.

              • @vash5: Hi. Cant seem to PM you. step 2 is using a pen drive is it?
Do you have steps on creating that? I check ed a video and that did not have this step.
can i directly clone without boot mode?
                Thank you

                • @kalakaar: Hey all good.. not sure why you can't PM me either.

                  Yes, it's using USB stick.

Umm not sure.. I will need to look it up. But you should be able to do this inside the program. It will ask you which drive to select and you follow the onscreen instructions.

Ideally you want to run off boot stick so the drive you are cloning is not I'm use. This reduces potential errors, offers a better transfer time and is a clean way of doing it.

I'll send you a PM and see if it works.

                  No worries 👍👍

For the same SSD under 512GB is often slower than 512GB or above due to less storage arrays.

    • so I'm understanding it -
      Crucial MX500 250GB vs Crucial MX500 512GB

The 512gb will shit all over it ?
