    De-clog them.

  • You will need an EEL or Jet to clear the pipe. Call a plumber.

you can go to Kennard hire and hire an EEL, by doing this you will have to have access to the point of the clog.

If the water level is reducing, it means there is still a gap for the water to flow, then you can try to add Salt (table salt or pool salt), a large amount for few days, you should see it improve in as little as 3 -4 days with no more rains. This method you will need to keep adding salt every week or 2 to keep the root growth.

        • Yup, definitely gna try it out. Thanks for the tips

@NeCh: Risk of diy eel that you hire is that you get it stuck or break it…

If you hire a service (plumber) look very carefully at the contract as some say stuck eel is your cost to recover. Ie digging up the pipes.

How do you train the eel to clear the pipe?

  • Yep. Haven't done anything about it. Seems like it will be expensive to clear and repair.

Drains away pretty quickly once rain has stopped.

    • Will try to DIY, just to be cheaper

  • If the blockage is on council property Eg kerbside, you may be in luck.

    • Sadly, the blockage is about half a meter in from the house. No luck

You can buy an eel machine on ebay, search for drain snake.
    About $300.
I have one because we live with 30+m of 80 year old clay pipes and dozens of trees, so they need to be snaked annually.
It is pretty easy to use, but takes longer than the 10000psi Jetta my plumber uses. But since I don't charge myself $150 an hour I can live with it.

YouTube has videos on how to use it.

Whereabouts along the property is the blockage and any indication on source of tree?

Council must clear stormwater drains up to a certain point and then it becomes your responsibility after that point. Typically the boundary would be your actual property boundary but I've heard of cases where Council has cleaned up to the inlet.

Also, if the tree is a Council tree or neighbour's tree, then there may be avenues for compensation if you're required to pay to have the blockage removed.

I got jacaranda in my front yard. The blocked drain is about 10 mts in from the kerb. I guess no harm ringing them up
