Strange order from Audional, order 1 model of printer however received the other

Very strange.
I ordered the Brother Wireless Mono Laser Printer HL-L2375DW from Audional (a newly created website) about 2 weeks ago. I was worried that it may be fraud because the deal of post has been deleted very quickly ( due to lack of biz info according to moderator).
When I asked the seller, they kept saying they will post soon, and then told me no stock and will give me refund.
After few days, I suddenly received a printer of different model, with correct name and address but WRONG mobile number.
The printer I received is HP LaserJet Pro M404dn. On the package, it says the printer is from Officeworks LTD, but also has Audional order number on it???
Any trap here? What should I do now???

Thanks in advance!

  • Looks like a potential drop shipping scam or could be genuine error. Did you call the number on their site to figure out what's going on?

    • Hi, thanks for the reply. But what's the drop shipping scam?? What is the consequence of it to a buyer? Thanks!!
My initially thought is they use the stolen credit card to order from Officeworks for me.But I could be wrong…

  • The HP LaserJet Pro M404dn appears to be a better printer I'd set it up and test it out. Maybe a win win.

Well it's HP so not really

    Audional.com?

According to ScamWatch they have a trust score of 1%.

Very bad trust score : Warning, only for experienced users!

The domain name is very recent (less than 6 months)
The owner of the domain name is hidden: check privacy policies!
The creation of the domain name is rather recent
    Short life expectancy domain.

    • Thanks for your reply, the strange thing is I did received a printer with different model I ordered. And delivery note saying it is from Officeworks, with Audional's order number.

      • Alternately Officeworks order number became Audionals' order number …

  • What sort of scam where you paid for $180 printer and they gave you a $320 printer. Sound like a mistake to me.
If you really want the $180 printer. Maybe just check if $320 printer is working, then sell it, and then buy the $180 from anther seller

Site looks dodgy asf.. no wonder the deal was unpublished.

    Triangulation Fraud

Work out where you, officeworks and the website fit into the scheme of things..

    • I read it and it really looks like it….
So my option here maybe just wait until Officeworks asked me to return the printer which I just opened to check if there is anything inside.

There is a known scam where you pay for something, the ‘seller’ uses a stolen credit card and buys something from a third party and has it sent to you. Therefore, the real seller does not get the address of the scammer.
I am unsure if the real seller is able to take possession of the goods once the credit card details are discovered as stolen.

    • Thanks for your reply.
I will just wait and see what is going to happen.

Same thing happened to me when I ordered a HL-L2375DW from Audional

    • HI, can I ask what did you get from them and did they tell you about anything about your order?

      • I got an external harddrive worth twice as much as my order, it came from Officeworks too. My story is identical to everyone else's here. I keep a close eye on my credit card anyway, but I'll probably cancel it soon.

    • … waiting for the comments from the people that ordered LaserJet Pro M404dn from Audional…

Same thing happened, I ordered a Brother Wireless Mono Laser Printer HL-L2375DW recently from Audional and received a Sandisk extreme portable ssd 1tb. There was an officeworks packing slip inside the box and officeworks tape outside the box.

I sent an email to Audional and received a reply:

    "Very sorry for this mistake.
Please resubmit the product image received for our verification.
And return the product to the address:
    first name : tran
    Lastname : anh dang
ADDRESS: Rear 430 burwood rd , Belmore 2192 Nsw
    0423276789
We will process and return the right product to you.
    Thank you !!!"

However the address is a residential address and I don't trust I will get the right product or refund. Seems very dodgy if many people are having the same issue with Audional.

I'm waiting to see what happens to.

    • Like the OP, I also had this with the wrong mobile number but not a printer "After few days, I suddenly received a printer of different model, with correct name and address but WRONG mobile number."

      • Thanks for your info and reply.

        • How did you pay for the order? I'd worry Audional will use your payment details again.

Audional seem to be running a scam with multiple people receiving the wrong order but more expensive product from Officeworks.

Not to be trusted at all.

          • @Magicmagic: I used PayPal to pay for that order which luckily I didn't use my credit card. Yep the audional looks so doggy,

Definitely don't send it there. Almost certainly a triangulation scam, seller has ordered from Officeworks using stolen card and had it shipped directly to you.
If you send it you'll likely never see anything again, unless it's a scammer with great customer service and they dropship you another stolen product :)

Strange though that they'd provide any sort of details though, but could be anyone. Searching that mobile number gives some interesting results.. looking at these videos, seems they get a bit of daigu action on the side too..

  • Anyone opens the dispute to Audional on PayPal?

    • I imagine Paypal will just see that a delivery was made and side with the seller

  • Just out of curiousity… anyone want to plug their Audional order number into Here and advise of the result?

    • I have the Officeworks order number and it legit came from Officeworks. Though the order tracking site doesn't show what was ordered, just that it was delivered. My guess is that when I placed the order with Audional, they used stolen credit card to order from Officeworks. Officeworks didn't have the printer in stock, so the fraudster just ordered something worth substantially more using a stolen credit card. When the wrong product rocks up, the Orderer (me) doesn't crack the shits because I didn't get what they wanted, but got something worth more.

I tried to call Officeworks and alert them of the potential fraud but their telephone IVR is so laborious and shoo you away with "We are currently experiencing high call volumes." If there is no priority pathway to alert them, then their own internal processes must be robust enough to detect and manage the headache of reeling all this back.

  • This is called a triangulation scam.

Seller gets paid by you, uses stolen credit card to order product from legitimate store (often seems to be a product of higher value) and has it shipped directly to you.

Eventually, stolen card owner disputes transaction, and Officeworks in this case is the one that is ultimately scammed.

  • How does the scammer gain from this?
    You order $200 printer
So scammer got your credit card and ask officeworks to send you a $380 printer
But your credit card only see $200 deducted

    • You order and pay for a $200 printer via the scammer

Scammer purchases printer from officeworks using a stolen credit card from elsewhere

      Your payment is profit

Not sure if they can double up with your card details in future…

  • This scam doesn't even make sense to me

    • Simple way to look at it is that you paid a seller and they got you the item you ordered, or something worth more, for free, all while pocketing the money you paid them for it.

They use stolen details (I'd imagine someone else's stolen credit card?) to purchase the item for you and get it sent directly to you. How they've won is that you paid them for the item, so they gained money that probably isn't traceable in the end, from using the stolen card. The value of the item probably doesn't matter, because they're not actually paying for it themselves. Then eventually the original owner of the stolen card sees the charge, disputes or charges back through their bank, and the loser in the end is the retailer that the "scammer" ordered your item from.

  • Paid via PayPal and reported the payment as the wrong item was sent. Finally got a refund through PayPal for our Brother printer that never arrived. Received another product instead.
