AsRock Radeon RX 5600 XT Challenger D $389 + Shipping @ Shopping Express

890

Pretty good price for a 5600 XT, probably not the best AIB but at the price you can't complain too much.

Shipping was ~$10 to metro Melbourne.

This is laughable value for the price.. essentially slots between a 2060 and 2060 super, whilst consuming less power for $300 less

    • Well it's basically a 5700 so it slots with the 2060 Super if you flash VBIOS, but I strongly recommend avoiding this card due to ASRock's failure to send Hardware Unboxed a model for review, the fact that it's selling for so cheap, and brrrrrgh's friend's terrible experience with it.

      • +1

ASRock's failure to send Hardware Unboxed a model for review

What the..? Thats a reason to avoid this card?? That's entitlement right there!

        • I think it’s rather worrying why wouldn’t they send it… Could be because fearing they will uncover any nasty surprises the manufacturer was trying to hide…

dunno why @rajeh was negged… i guess ppl buy this to get the code for the game and flip it on marketplace?

          • @kaleidoscope: Them and gamers nexus got banned by Asrock for the critical reviews on the Z490 boards. So no more review samples are being sent out.
Probably reason enough to stay away from Asrock?

            • @aussieprepper: Don't just take something and apply it everywhere without context ;) …

i.e. Both channels have reviews praising Asrock products; so what then?

              • +1

@kaleidoscope: That's exactly right, they do both have positive reviews on Asrock gear but yet they are petty enough to ban both channels from future reviews. The positive reviews would have made Asrock a bit of money especially between both channels.
What's that say about the companies morals? What that say about Asrocks customer service?

If you where making stellar products would you need to worry about negative reviews?

                • @aussieprepper:

If you where making stellar products would you need to worry about negative reviews?

Yeap pretty much. I thought you were being sarcastic at first. But anyway…

        • It's a good reason to avoid the card, it's probably loud and hot. I know the 5700xt challenger was selling for $100 less and it was still not selling, it was a garbage card! But for a budget gamer who doesn't care about the durability or noise, for unadulterated performance, it's a good buy.

  • Is this better value and performance than a 1660 super for $350? Need for FS2020.

    • -1

This card is almost on par with a 2060 super lol

      • +1

So its good then? Sorry a bit of a noob here.

        Is a 2060 super better than a 1660 super>

      • -1

if almost means 20% less powerful with no RT/DLSS Support then sure

        • +7

Get off Userbenchmark and go look at same actual games.

          • -1

@AusNugz: youtube benchmarks arent that reliable either, get off those and look at actual hardware numbers

            • -2

@Freestyle: Okay now you are just making it clear you have no idea. Comparing "numbers" across two entirely different architectures is not going to give a clear picture whatsoever. You sound like Intel, 14nm is bigger than 7nm therefore we win.

              • -3

@AusNugz: lol sure buddy, you randomly say get off "user benchmark" so I told you to get off those dumb youtube benchmarks

I also like how you ignore DLSS and RTX because those are complete myths to most people apparently

Yes software capabilities count for something, not to mention superior drivers and superior hardware even though they are a node behind

                • @Freestyle: Mid range cards can't use RT, it's too big of a performance hit. You need a high end card and even then, it's a technology for a few generations from now.

DLSS is nice and all, but for real world performance, it's nothing amazing yet, no all games utilize it well. Software and hardware is subjective and drivers take a awhile to stabilise from release. Are you sure your alright?

According to SE page, looks like this purchase also allows you to redeem:

Godfall & World of Warcraft: Shadowlands by 3/10/2020

    • how?

      • Raise the game amd promotion, you'll get likely a card or email with a code to redeem on AMDs promotion page.

It's on the page if you click through, should also be able to find the seller on the promotion page.

  • Spewing….just finished my build with 1660 Super for a similar price

    • +4

Buy this and then sell the 1660 super?

  • Wow, this is great value - much better value even than the price error 2060 super that was on here a few months ago for 480…

    • +1

How do you calculate the value for both GPU
And would this GPU be suitable for 27inch 1440p gaming?

      • +1

The easiest is look up at games with your graphic cards on youtube. Plenty of videos showing the benchmark on 1080p/1440p

For example "5600xt Call of Duty"

Edit : In terms of value look up benchmark of fps performance of different game. You can see this 5600xt card actually performs similar to the $600 2060 Super

      • There is channel called fps test on YT. Go look for your card in there.

    • Yeah better value than that one indeed

  • +12

If it hasn't been done already, make sure to update vBIOS to increase clock and memory speed (about 10% boost in overall performance): https://www.asrock.com/Graphics-Card/AMD/Radeon%20RX%205600%…

    • is there a chane of bricking it ? if so does warranty cover it?

    • I don't think you should be flashing a higher performing VBIOS on a disaster like this. See brrrrrgh's comment below.

  • Almost tempted to get it for that Shadowlands code then sell it on marketplace lol

  • I bought this card from shopping express.

It is not good as I hoped.

Intermittent flickering green lines or blocks or pixels while playing games.

    • +13

? Sounds like a fault have it replaced.

    • That doesn't sound like a performance issue, it sounds like a fault somewhere.

    • I had that on my RX570 and it died a few weeks later. Apparently it's a sign the card is faulty and will likely fail.

    • its called artifacting. it indicates a fault in the card; either a dying card or unstable voltages… get it replaced

  • +4

Hardware unboxed have an amazing review of most the 5600xt cards for performance have a quick search on YouTube if not sure what to expect with the 5600xt range.

  • +2

Signed in just to warn people about this model of 5600 xt.. I don't own it personally, but know someone who *did- they sold it on Ebay for a loss real fast

Apparently one of the most flimsy/cheaply built GPU's you'll ever encounter , with poor thermals and fan noise.. You can spend another 30 bucks on Amazon and get a faaar better 5600 XT than this

    • Are you referring to XFX one?
      https://www.amazon.com.au/XFX-14GBPS-1620MHz-Graphics-RX-56X…
Do you have first hand experience? How does Amazon US warranty compare with SE?

      • +1

No, this Asrock challenger is apparently shocking in terms of thermals and noise. Outside of the friend I know, just searching I can't even find a review.. site Kitguru had published one but then removed it, that can't be good

      • I just ordered that XFX one for $419 and then it went up to $466 after I ordered it. Hopefully if works out alright!

    • Yep. Article from Techspot (written by Steve from HUB) says they couldn't get their hands on the card, and the fact that it's selling below MSRP is a bad sign. They said to avoid it at all costs. And if it's anything like the RX 5700 XT definitely avoid.

      • Yeah looks like it'll only be good if anyone already has an aftermarket cooling solution like a Morpheus/accelero/water cooler. Definitely not worth it otherwise and even with those niche circumstances it's still a hard sell.

Guess it's just more waiting until RDNA2 or other sales.

        • Yeah I have to do that shit with my MECH. I'm either going to be lazy and zip tie Noctua fans to it or I'll go all out with an Accelero III. Probably the latter.

    • I was about to buy than I saw your comment. What do you recommend as an alternative for around the same price?

  • This is roughly my current build: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/xBxwx6
    i5-4590 and reference r9-290
Is it a worthy upgrade or am I better spending money elsewhere?

    • If you're gaming then yeah, GPU will be the best upgrade path. Whether it's worth it is up to you, IMO this is a pretty good deal even with Big Navi/Ampere on the horizon.

    • It's worth it but you'll run into a CPU bottleneck. Still will give a good boost over the 290.

  • I’m still rocking up i5 2500k @ 4.5Ghz and R9 280x, would upgrading the GPU to this will be enough for FS2020? Or the CPU will be the bottleneck? Cheers

    • Hard to say given FS2020 isn't out yet - I'd say you'll probably run into a bit of a bottleneck with the 2500K, but those things are absolute beasts with a decent OC so you should be OK.

Of course you can always get the graphics card now then upgrade the CPU later when needed.

      • I've been meaning to upgrade GPU for quite a while but on the other hand I don't use my computer that much lately. Thanks for the advice.

    • It will definitely give less frames then a modern cpu on newer games. Although it still seems to hold up pretty well.

This website seems to have a good indicator on performance for many games with your cpu and this gpu https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/amd-radeon-rx-5600-xt/intel-cor…

Here you can see the ryzen 5 3600 which is one of the more popular cpu choices right now paired with the same card https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/amd-radeon-rx-5600-xt/amd-ryzen…

I just found these websites using google and at first I thought it didn't give accurate results due to exact same fps but if you scroll down it changes and seems more accurate.

      • Thanks mate for that links. Yeah I've been itching to upgrade to R5 3600 but I can wait until the 4000 on the market to see how they're competes.

  • I prefer the look of the xfx one better

    • so do I any where with a similar price for that model?

  • Okay can someone fill me in on Zip pay? How much do i pay per month if i got this?

    • +4

Minimum monthly repayment is $40, but there is a $6 monthly fee so you would only be reducing the amount owed by $34.

      Assuming the cost of the card is $400 shipped;

At $40/month it will take 12 months to pay off at a final cost of $466.

      Month Repayment Reduction Amount owing
      0 - - $400
      1 $40 $34 $366
      2 $40 $34 $332
      3 $40 $34 $298
      4 $40 $34 $264
      5 $40 $34 $230
      6 $40 $34 $196
      7 $40 $34 $162
      8 $40 $34 $128
      9 $40 $34 $94
      10 $40 $34 $60
      11 $40 $34 $26
      12 $26 $26 $0
      Final Cost $466

At $80/month it will take 6 months to pay off at a final cost of $430.

      Month Repayment Reduction Amount owing
      0 - - $400
      1 $80 $74 $326
      2 $80 $74 $252
      3 $80 $74 $178
      4 $80 $74 $104
      5 $80 $74 $30
      6 $30 $30 $0
      Final Cost $430
      • Is afterpay the same/similar thing?

        Nice table there Btw.

        • +1

Afterpay is similar in terms of payments but they wont have an account fee per month, there will be obvious fees/interest if payments are missed though.

There are also slight differences when it comes to your credit as well, if that's a concern. It likely won't impact it if you're paying on time but can be reported if payments are missed.

          • @rekkore: Thanks for the explanation. I am just curious, not plan to use either.

Last time I check afterpay I do notice that it said no account fee. So effectively it's relying on individual to not pay on time to make money. (same as no annual fee credit card I guess)

        • Afterpay is similar, but you're expected to pay it off in 6 weeks split into 4 installments and there are no fees unless you are late on a repayment.

          • At time of purchase you pay 25% of the order total.
          • Fortnight 1: 25%
          • Fortnight 2: 25%
          • Fortnight 3: 25%
          • @HomeAlone: I am surprised Zip is offered as much as it is, after learning they have a monthly account fee.

I guess the trade off is zip lets you pay it down at a slower rate (wonder why) while Afterpay only gives you 4 fortnightly repayments.

            • @Osiris: If you pay off in the first 60 days or something, no account fees on Zip.

              Basically like optional extended afterpay

      • Thanks much. I'm still considering doing it. I really wish it was afterpay but I mean at this point I could pay it off in a month, just easier to do it this way atm. Plus I was looking at other stuff from Shopping Express and the prices are actually low compared to other places ie mwave, pccasegear.

  • I'm currently running a i7-7700 with a gtx980ti. Would it be worth upgrading to this card to also use the freesync feature of the xiaomi 34in curve monitor that I recently got?

  • Anyone know if this card have zero rpm fan mode?

    • -1

If it doesn't advertise it then no. You can always use Red BIOS Editor to add zero rpm to your VBIOS, or MorePowerTool to do it through software, though it will need to be applied after every driver update. I would avoid this card though, Hardware Unboxed (Techspot) said to tentatively avoid this model because it is selling below MSRP and because ASRock refused to send it to them. If it's anything like their 5700 XT model it's going to be shiiit.

      • +1

Sounds kinda ridiculous to tell people to stay away without any actual ground, "because ASRock refused to send it to them"
So if a manufacturer doesn't send a card to Hardware Unboxed they'll automatically get a bad review sort of thing?

        • Yeah I worded that badly. I'll just quote Techspot (written by Steve from HUB):

This one in particular we don't have on hand and have been unable to buy locally, but the fact that Asrock tried to avoid us testing it and it’s selling below the MSRP already, is not a good sign.

          Source.

  • I liked the look of this but given the comments, I'm second guessing. If you had $300-$400 to spend and needed to order a card this week, what would you choose? I'm currently doing very light gaming but spending so much time at home, I want to start doing a lot more

    • Any of the 1660 supers had been catching my eye as alternative

      • Did you find anything around the same price that is better? I checked the comments on here too and i checked newegg reviews as well and it seems to be a piece of shit.

    • +2

For me the only cards I could recommend right now with Aus pricing, is the 1660 super or the 5700 XT

MSY seem to have the Gigabyte 2 fan version (Windforce) which is great, for $399..quiet/runs cool. Not sure if you live near MSY, but that has even better price:Perf than most 5600 xts (doesn't perform as well obviously) . But is a great card with excellent 1080p performance (even 1440P depending on the game), and you can squeeze more out via overclocking if that's your thing

For online ordering the Galax 1660 Super while being a bit on the cheaper side for construction, still has good thermals and isn't too noisy either . You can probably find one of those for 400 or less delivered

      • thanks a lot for the feedback, i think i am going to go ahead with a 1660 super, either gigabyte or msi ventus

      • Yeah thanks much. I'll probably get that Galax 1660 Super which is actually $379 on Shopping Express. I googled and Galax is really good shit despite being cheap.

  • Has anyone who bought this gotten a tracking number yet? mine still says "In Progress" bought on the 16th

    • I also bought on the 16th and got a tracking number today.

      • What's the ETA? There doesn't seem to be any mention of it on their website

        • AusPost tracking says this week. I'm in Melbourne.

          Maybe send them an email?

          • @miarn: Just got the tracking today hope I get it this week too! in Melbourne as well.

  • I got my card and the only concern is that it is NOT SEALED in any way. That means the seller could have tested the cards and cherry picked ones with better OC capability. Is there any way to check if the card is genuinely brand new, never been inserted?

    • I don't think so, but mine wasn't sealed either. Did yours have a plastic peel over part of the fan shroud?

And did you get the rewards code?

      • Emailed them on 22th and got the code now.

        • did you get codes for both games? confused as it if you get to chose between the two or you actually get two?

          • @Bowchkawowow: Got 1 code… should be for 2 games? Havent activated yet.

          • @Bowchkawowow: Yeah I think the one code is for the two games - SE sends you a code to redeem on AMD's website, which then gives you codes for each game.

I haven't activated mine yet, pending the RMA.

            • @miarn: Fan making too much noise? That's too bad… Hope RMA goes smoothly. Let me know how it goes :)

              • @High: Yeah I think one had a dodgy bearing - the other was nearly silent, but this one was making a fair racket even at idle.

  • Also, card is pretty quiet no loud noise or temperature concerns so far. Didn't us OC function though.

  • +1

Fairly late reply on here, but just thought I would add that mine has been silent and running well (PS. I have a watercooled CPU which is super quiet, so I can easily notice any fans. This card has been great).

Its so much quieter than my 390x its impressive given its also noticeably faster side by side with my other PC (similar CPU).

Also got the code super quick by emailing them, its one code then on the AMD site you get 2 credits when you apply it. This lets you select the games on the AMD site like a store. Pretty cool.

  • I ordered this on 16/8 and still waiting, is anyone else also waiting?
I am in VIC and I understand slow post times but 12 business days seems excessive.
