Yo, I need a re-up!
Rapidly? Bullshit. Still rocking an S8. What do I get from a newer phone? Faster, better camera, faster Hz… But at the end of the day it's still the same thing. I still have a good camera, wireless charging and quick charge, good big screen etc etc. And this is 3+ years old.
The rate of improvement from each new generation is actually pretty slow, yet the prices keep increasing…
100% agree on this, I replace my mobile phones when they don't work anymore, hasn't been anything I consider worthwhile in quite a few years. The main thing that seems to improve over time is camera quality, but I'm not dropping that much cash for the in reality minor upgrades.
Currently on a Pixel 3 and previously had a OnePlus 3, which only got replaced because the USB-C port was stuffed and couldn't charge it anymore. I didn't notice any real performance improvement, but it was a definite jump up in camera quality. USB-C port is also not working on my Pixel 3, but wireless charging will mean it's good for a while yet!
how soon have you changed your last smart phone ?
So, you're asking how long my previous phone lasted, not the current one?
Used to be every year, two at most. With the price of phones these days, I think it will be until the thing stops working.
My first one was a Samsung galaxy s3 in 2012 then I got a huawei p9 in 2016 and that's still my current phone. I will use this phone for at least another year maybe two. It's had it's battery replaced.
I'll buy a new one when the one I'm currently using dies.
Still got my iPhone 7, 3.5 years old now and showing no signs of slowing. When this breaks I'd happily get another 7, it's got a reasonably good camera and does everything I need it to.
I tend to buy a $400 phone every 2 years. Two years seems to be how long I can go before I lose my phone or drop it so many times that the screen is pretty shattered/the phone is completely broken and the battery life is degraded.
Went from an Galaxy S8Plus to a Galaxy Note 9 about 2 years ago.
No notch, big battery, dual stereo speakers, biometric unlock is fast. Pretty much the perfect device. Will probably keep this phone for another year or so before I sell it off and upgrade.
I usually give my older phone to another family member to use (parents mostly) so there's very little waste here.
Have the galaxy note 9, next phone upgrade i want is to be foldable.
Still sporting an S7 Edge from 2016.
Looking for a replacement within the next few months as this one has developed the infamous purple line. Otherwise I would keep using it for another 1-2 years.
Daily. Use them as burners.
