[eBay Plus] PanTech Weather Station Wifi PT-WH2900 $160.52 Delivered (Was $188.85) @ Flora Livings eBay

170
P15ACE

A great home weather station. Wireless connection so you can view the data from any smart phone.

Flora living has multiple of these for sale but for some reason they have dropped this listing by $10 (all others are $198.85) and when combined with ebay plus 15% off this comes down to only $1 more than the lowest price in recent times so is about as good as it gets price wise.

  • I've been waiting for a deal on one of these, thanks OP!

    • what use case would you need something like this?

how it compares to just checking weather site or weather app?

I have this unit and they are pretty solid. Been up on my roof for 5 years and hasn't skipped a beat. As @steveandbelle mentions below, the wifi set-up is a MAJOR PITA but there is lots of guidance on various forums as to how to get it working.

Some people are just data orientated like me and enjoying knowing details of the local wind, temp, rain etc conditions.

There are some practical use cases also. This unit can feed data directly to WeatherUnderground (a publicly available, free service for personal weather stations) and then a variety of home irrigation stations can access this data and use it to adjust garden watering.
For example - i have a hydrawise irrigation controller. It reads the data from my weather station constantly. If there is more than 10mm of rain over 3 days, or 15mm over 7 days (or something like that) it cancels the next watering cycle or a weeks worth of watering cycles respectively. Similarly, if temperature and UV are over certain limits it increases the time for each zone watering.

Have purchased a few of these over the years, a couple for myself and others for friends/family. For the money they're excellent and offer amazing bang-for-buck when compared to the very expensive semi-pro units I've purchased, used and have been frustrated with in the past however please note that these are built to a price so you cannot expect them to last forever. Also, the Wifi connectivity feels like an afterthough and is very, very klunky to setup however once done it seems to be OK. My experiences included one of my units just completely dying for no apparent reason after about 18 months and the other unit no longer wants to connect to my wifi… but it's over 3-4 years old so 'meh'. At about a sixth the price of my previous units I'm not too concerned because over its life it offered far more than its predecessors so it was a net win afterall. It's now really just the hassle of having to climb a big ladder to remove & replace the outdoor sensor again because the best locations for them is usually up super high and out of the way of everything. Urgh.

  • Can anyone recommend a similar quality station for an apartment with a balcony (i.e. without rain/wind module)?

Get a Netatmo off Gumtree. Great product and buying used will half your upfront investment. Standard pack doesn't include rain gauge or anemometer so would be good for your apartment. Can hook up via smart services like Assistant IFTTT, or Alexa to turn on the AC for example if it gets too hot inside.

  • I don't weather or not I want to buy this…

  • Sadly the cockatoos in my area would have the outside unit destroyed in half an hour.
