Hi. I’ve been screwed over by PayPal and would like to know if there is a similar, alternate payment method. Something that offers buyer protection and looks at evidence properly to ensure a fair outcome . Thanks

Would it matter? You have to go with one of the methods that the store offers.

Most places offer AfterPay and the like so you could probably order and pay off the total immediately if you don't want to use their payment plans.
OP, if you haven't got the resolution you were seeking from PayPal (they are scums), I'd highly recommend you to lodge a complaint with the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA), which will get you in touch with the executive escalations team at PayPal and hopefully they will be able to get your issues sorted.
PayPal has always been more than fair to me as a consumer. I trust them totally.
many retailers get screwed by Paypal/accetping credit cards.
Look at silly travel agents who took payments via card on their own merchant facility. Client does a chargeback & succeeds & airline might not refund agent. Have seen in past, some lose their houses over this, during Ansett collapse.
