When Was The Last Time You Wrote to a Business with Compliments?

It could if been a letter of thanks or to give positive feedback on a product or item a business sells.

A while ago I wrote a letter to a small, family run biscuit manufacturing business. It was short and simply stated what a great product they had made and, basically, keep up the good work.

Not expecting anything, they sent me a big box of bickies! They also stated how appreciative they were of my message. How it gave them all a "well needed boost". They supposedly pinned it up in the workplace for all workers to see.

They also commented on how rare it was to receive a message of compliments.

I later sent an email to a larger business, Repco. Again, a short email but just thanking them for their staff at my local centre which are always helpful and friendly. That's it.

Again not expecting a response, I received an email from their head office thanking me and, like the biscuit business rep, stated how much they appreciated the feedback as usually they only hear from customers when there is a problem. They also CC'd me in to an email to all centres nationwide giving a thumbs up to the workers at my local centre.

I felt really good about it and hopefully it made a worker or two feel the same way.

So I was just wondering, with all the businesses we connect with on Ozbargain or otherwise, who else has sent a personal message of thanks, not through a review or external site, but directly to a business?

Cheers

For the 1 out of 10 businesses that are actually owner/operator, and not total shams, simply dont waste any of their time.

For the rest of the soulless businesses, my patronage is all the thanks theyll get

I once posted a good review for a brothel. You will never expect what happened next

      "Thank you come again".

    • You came back.

I usually send an email or message via websites, to let companies know about the great service I've received.. I hope they make it back to the actual people concerned…

  • I sent the messmenot person an email thanking them for their great product. They were overjoyed to get a thanks.

Nb: it's a product so babies don't mess up their clothes on the highchair

  • I receive notes/cards on a weekly basis so I do know people still send them. Youngest person was in their late 30s and very few and far between the younger they get.

Having said that, I get more gifts from young people. Usually in the form of alcohol which I always find very amusing.

Let's inebriate him for the next patient.

    • We recently receive letters, cards weekly and gifts every week or two as well from patients as well.

  • So when do you receive your big box of tyres?

  • Never considered it but now I am.

  • "It's not that we're bad people, we just weren't paying enough attention."

  • Never, maybe I should…

  • I'm writing one for Toby deals as we speak.

    • are they even legit?

    • What, an nice email or an angry one?

Nice. I got my phone 6 months earlier than expected.

        • It only took 6 months?

        • 6 months?

  • Good feedback for normal/expected services or product. Glowing feedback for exceptional quality of product/services.

As the great Adam Smith once said:

"It is not from the benevolence of the butcher, the brewer, or the baker that we expect our dinner, but from their regard to their own self-interest."

There is no need for me to send a compliment or thank a business that sells me stuff for their own pure self-interest. If they provide me good service, then my "thanks" is that I continue to shop there & give them my hard-earned money & increase their profits.

    • Exactly, and if the product or service is disappointing, you don't buy it again. Simple.

Hmm but I mostly just buy cheap generic branded foods and mass-produced imported Chinese goods.

Should I write a thank-you card to McDonald's staff for a good Big Mac?

Or how would I even contact the suppliers who make the supermarket branded products?

Also, it might be better to leave businesses a positive review on Google or elsewhere?

  • say if you were the manager of a large company and you recieved a heart warming letter of gratitude, what would you do?

  • The thanking and appreciation of small(er) businesses has become more prevalent where I am, probably due to the 5km lockdown in Melbourne. There is really only one group of shops within that 5km, and the local FB group has been inundated with compliments to those businesses that are remaining open in some form or another (some are only open limited hours, some delivering specific items although they are closed, etc.).
One of the shops wrote about the gifts of hampers, cash, flowers, etc., that they have received over the past week or so, from local customers / residents.

  • I've been sending feedback to KFC survey, albeit to get Free Chips & Drink, but I always take the efforts to elaborate in the free-text box about my last visit and compliment them about the taste of the food (if it was good, hot, spicy). Similarly, I do the same for other Surveys that I enter.
