  If you want to register a .com.au you will need an ABN.
  Have a read of this article:

  There is no cost to register an ABN as sole trader.
  
  Alternatively you can register a .com without the need for an ABN or any of the newer domain types like .biz or .site (click the Extensions drop down, under the domain search box on our website for a full list)

This looks like a great deal but on the off-chance that my website gets unexpected traffic, the overage fees seem pretty steep. Are there usage reminders in place, and checks in place to suspend the hosting if there's a sudden spike in traffic?

  We've never actually had to charge for over usage on any of the DA plans. However, yes we do have notifications in place and will communicate with you before you go over.
  The usage limit is more in place to deter unfair hosting practices than to penalise honest clients.

For anybody considering taking up this offer I highly recommend Uptime. I switched over a few months ago my pages load so much faster than they did with my old host.
