Long time lurker. New poster.
Looking to be a first home buyer. Got burnt by local conveyancer (got a bill for 'emailing' but no house!! long story). Hoping to avoid that experience.
Anyone who had decent conveyancer who's value-for-money?

Some you just cant tell
Yep, renting.
I always find it interesting that purchasers always try and skimp on a $750-1000 conveyancing fee, but will happily hand ~$20k over to their selling agent.
At least you're being proactive. Most hunt down a conveyancer AFTER signing the contract, without any conditions that benefit or protect them.
Thnks Zeggie - not trying to skimp, but wanted a decent conveyancer and word of mouth is probably better than just blindly googling one!

I have used her twice and she has been brilliant both times. The first time I had no idea what I was doing and she guided me through the process.
Thank You Toristo - she sounds great! I just need someone who's upfront and honest about any fees (last one charged hundreds of dollars for 'emails'). So when the contract crashed decided I needed someone better.
got burnt by conveyancers in qld.
paid for a lawyer for not much more.
found a good one in sydney a few years ago.
Thanks Peccadilloes - you and I could probably swap stories. I never had a lawyer/ conveyancer before, so didn't know what to expect. But now I kinda get some of the jokes about those in the industry. Not trying to tar everyone with the same brush, I'm sure there are decent lawyers/ conveyancers, but I didn't have them in this instance. So making sure I get someone else for my next offer.
You sound like a renter
