Cheapest .com/.com.au Domain Provider with WHOIS Protection

Hey fellas,

Looking to buy a domain with both .com and .com.au extension. Any clues for cheapest place to buy domains from?
I checked out Namecheap and it's cart total is coming $36/year. Just wondering if anyone knows much better and cheaper place!

Cheers.

  • I think namesilo at $13/year or something

  • VentraIP sometimes have specials on

    • Thanks, on this site, the total is coming $35. But on Namecheap total is coming to be $36 (and I will probably get additional 30% off because of new user). I think Namecheap still wins.

  • generally youll have to pay extra for the privacy.
and as far as im aware, no privacy on .com.au domains only .com

check godaddy or crazy domains, always promo codes floating around.

http://www.namesilo.com or http://www.porkbun.com for .com (I use porkbun for all my domains)

no WHOIS protection for .com.au, so go with https://zuver.net.au/ for cheapest price (owned by VentraIP, their price beater brand, think Jetstar/Qantas)

If you want privacy just make up your details, call yourself Bob Jane(or Jane Bob if your female although that probably doesnt matter since there are girls with boys name and vice versa… Just call yourself Freeza if that makes you happy.), 123 fake address, 1234567890 for phone number and a fake email like [email protected]

That should take care of even the .com.au domain……

    • ICANN sends information to the registered contact. It cant be fake. eg

ICANN ERRP for the domain XXX.net

      to (real email address)

      Dear XXXXX,

This message is a reminder regarding the upcoming expiration date of your domain name XXX.net in accordance with the ICANN Expired Registration Recovery Policy http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registrars/consensus-polic….

According to our records, the domain name is currently registered until:

      2020-03-08

      • how would they know ur real email address if u didnt give it to them in the first place?

Oh for renewal, well then I guess use an adress you rarely use but check from time to time just to renew your domain.

Namecheap bumped up their prices. Probably because I took up hours of their support staff time trying to transfer a .com.au and they were like, "waitaminute we aren't charging enough for this shit". Half the DNS guides and videos online are made with namecheap in mind. I find I don't like learning how to do things again. I don't want to be with some two-bit registrar who won't be around in five years time and I'll need to learn the interface of whoever buys them. I hate thinking about domains and I have hundreds. The less time I spend thinking about domains or learning how to group them or batch edit them, the better. I can't imagine the kind of person who actually looks up domain registration contact details and uses them, but why would I be scared of another email from a crank. WHOISguard is easy to bypass but I want to hear what they have to say if they really want to contact me. Could be an exciting offer.

  • I use to use Dynadot. Looks like .com is $9 usd with privacy atm.

  • https://zuver.net.au/domain-registration/ is close to the cheapest.

Whois privacy is really not allowed for .com.au registrations, though there are ways around it. What I do is all contact details point to another domain which is private.

You probably want free email too? Gmail does that https://thedigitalnonprofit.com/use-gmail-own-domain-free/ . You need a registrar that does free email forwarding (most do).

To be honest www.moniker.com is probably best cheap provider but it does not have .com.au . They have all sorts of useful features.

  • Whois privacy is really not allowed for .com.au registrations, though there are ways around it. What I do is all contact details point to another domain which is private.

A smart person would then just simply look up that other domain's info and find you that way….really the only way is to fake your details when signing up….that way no one, no matter how much snooping they do, will be able to find you in real life….

    • But whatif you are a real business providing services like photography? Is hidding your WHOIS info really worth it?

      • WEll yes if ur a real business doing honest work, then you dont have to hide anything….but if your not…..or just generaly prefer to hide your online presence….
