Telstra Next G Phone

Looking to buy a Telstra Next G phone. Which ones best value? http://www.telstra.com.au/mobile/prepaid/mobiles.cfm or is there anything else you recommend? ($100 spend max, although the lower the better) Decent camera and GPS are bonuses. Bluetick (recommended for rural a must!)

I think you'll be limited by the Bluetick requirement.

    Here's one for $99 but I don't think it has a blue tick - http://dicksmith.com.au/product/E6832/telstra-samsung-galaxy…

  • Yeah, I dont really need GPS or Camera, but im specifically buying this for when im out rurally camping so reception is most important. The Galaxy 5 isnt Blue Tick unfortunately but thats prety good deal with handsfree. Looks like the Nokia 6210 is best for reception according to Whirlpool.

LG GU290f is a Telstra Blue Tick phone, unlocked, though no GPS and camera is only 1.3mp. However it's $74 plus $13.80 delivery, with 12 months Manufacturers warranty so it's within your budget. Never bought from mobileciti, but their phones are all Aust stock (A tick) and they seem to have a good rep round here.

    Edit//

Heres a Blue Tick ZTE T3020 Android with GPS and a 3.2mp camera for $89.00 delivered on eBay. Doesn't mention warranty, but good price nonetheless.

That's a Telstra smart touch, or the exact phone that is branded as such. It currently sells over the counter for less than the asking price on that Auction.

Telstra smart touch can be unlocked free via a website I am happy to provide the url for.

Contrary to the claims on the auction, it is not sold as blue tick HOWEVER, in spite of that, we're getting comparable coverage with it to the blue tick phones that we have.

      • Thanks. Doesnt seem to have very good reviews

        • My hubby has it and is quite happy with it. It seems though that there are enough issues with it to probably be looking at something else.

If you don't necessarily HAVE to have a smart phone (no gps if it's not sorry) the Samsung C5220 is fairly cheap now - $59 (we have 2) and has proven itself to be very reliable as far as coverage goes (we have 2). Takes fairly good pics. If you already have a telstra sim, you can reduce the price by another $10 by returning the included $10 starter pack to telstra within 28 days (I think it is) for a refund of the $10.

  • The best reception cheap blue tick phone is the Sony Ericsson Cedar $49 (with $10 credit). Quite small and light. There are only two phones Telstra sell that have the comment (something like ) 'best for use outside rural towns (the other is the Blackberry Torch). Check on the Telstra prepaid phones page.

    • Cheers for that. I ended up finding a new T100 on Ebay for $35 delivered, which has room for an external arial, so will give that a go for now.

      • Have you actually bought that yet? If not, they're often on sale at the supermarkets for $25, icluding the $10 that you can return to Telstra for a refund if you don't need it.

        • Couldnt find any in supermarkets, officeworks are all sold out as were the department stores. Its a discontinued phone so I dont think it will be available anymore, hence why the price of it has gone up
