Best Gaming Monitor for a $350 Budget? Any Deals?

Currently I game on a 4k 42" TV, but everyone has told me a monitor is way better!
I pretty much only play Warzone!

So I am looking at buying a monitor, but the decent ones all seem to be $500+ even 2nd hand ones are pricey.

I think my budget is around $350, ideally I want 144-165 hz and 1440p

I have no idea why I need the above specs, but this is just what Google has told me! I also think I need a 27".

Any recommendations?

  • What's your PC's specs?

    • Im using an xbox one X
But I want it to be somewhat future proof for the new PS/Xbox

      • Viewsonic vx2758‑2kp‑mhd

I used to own it, (switched to Ultrawide) for its price it's easily the best value for the money.
Don't get confused between this and other 27" 144p 144hz monitors this is the cheapest that is an IPS Panel.

        • How would this compare to https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/asus-vg278qr-27-full-hd-1…

As I might be able to get a discount from my mate who works at JBH

            @glub: That's 1080p vs 1440p and at 27" it's a noticeable difference.

Though i still don't even know if PS5/Xbox series x will support 1440p even if they do im not sure about 120hz
I know there are games at 1080p 120hz for xbox series x.

lots of unknowns to be able to straight up say go 1080p 144hz or 1440p 144hz.

I wouldn't buy any monitor yet wait a little longer till we know more since you are buying it for exclusively console gaming.
            Keep saving and if https://www.tomshardware.com/news/philips-345m1cr-momentum-1…
this turns out true maybe you will have enough or an Ultrawide.

            • @Axelstrife: Best advice here. There is so much in the air regarding next gen refresh rates, etc let alone what games will even support it. People are probably recommending playing on a monitor to reduce input lag. Tv's aren't the best for competitive style gaming due to the horrendous input latency. This is effectively reduced on monitors.

  • AOC 27g2 if you don’t mind 1080p for $350.

    • I was looking at this, if I'm gaming on an Xbox, will this matter a huge amount? What would be the downside, also want it to be future proof for new console if possible.

  • Viewsonic vx2758‑2kp‑mhd

Whatever downvoted this comment clearly is an idiot.
This is easily the best value monitors that is 27" 144p 144hz and IPS

      • It doesn't even remotely fit the budget so someone might think that's worth a downvote.

  • PCPartPicker list with monitors with 144hz-170hz refresh rate, sorted from cheapest to most expensive

Unfortunately with your budget, 1080p is all you can get. The AOC 27G2 as mentioned above is great value for 1080p 144hz (review from Hardware Unboxed here)

The Viewsonic VX2758‑2KP‑MHD is the cheapest 1440p 144hz option at 470 bucks, if you don't mind stretching your budget.

    • Would the 1080-1440 make a huge difference?
Also, what about 4k, i'm assuming these are way out of my budget, but would it make a massive difference if I went with 4k?

I literally only play COD, I may occasionally play other games, I will also be doing general work on it.
Currently using an Xbox, but might upgrade to the new console or even a gaming PC.

I also have a mate who works at JBH and he can get me a discount, so I might see how much he could get off this:

      Thoughts?

      Thanks, for the help!

      • TBH 1080p and 1440p, I can only tell a slight difference. For the price difference and future proofing, the Viewsonic might be worth it. If you just want the cheapest/easiest to drive, the 27G2.

Its not worth it to buy a monitor, buy TV instead bigger and better pic quality

  • Hey mate I am in exactly the same position as you (Currently play COD / PUBG on xbox one X on an old 42 inch 1080p tv).

Have you settled on a monitor yet?

After reading all of the comments I checked out a few monitor reviews etc and I was leaning towards AOC 27G2 however someone mentioned that for next gen consoles you will need HDMI 2.1 to experience anything above 60hz. The AOC has hdmi 1.4 therefore I am now not sure if it is still a good buy considering next Gen consoles are rumored to be up to 144hz or 160hz.

Does anyone know if it is true that you will need a monitor with HDMI 2.1 to experience over 60hz on the next gen consoles?

    Cheers

    • Nope, but I have settled on:
      IPS panel
      1440p
      144hz

For that exact reason, that I want it to be supported by next-gen. the cheapest I can find is that viewsonic, im just holding on to see if another deal comes up. ideally dont want to pay more than $400..

  • Any recommendation for a 27+ monitor with build-in speakers? As I don’t want to spend extra on speakers, plus I have a small desk which could be a bit messy if I put a speaker there. Expected specs are similar to OP. My budget is sub 500$.

    • I've done extensive research at this point.
The best monitor under $500 seems to be the Viewsonic, either 27 or 32, these are usually just under $500.
      https://www.wireless1.com.au/viewsonic-vx2758-2kp-mhd-27in-1…
      They have built-in speakers

My mate can get me the LG lg-27gl83a for about $560 I am leaning towards that, but if not Im going to pull the trigger on the viewsonic.

Although, all the monitors with speakers built-in I have used usually suck, not sure about the viewsonic.

You can get small soundbars designed for monitors, maybe this would be your best option.

      • Thanks for the comment.

Genuinely agreed. I don’t really expect anything from the built in speaker performance-wise. A thing that makes any sound is all that I am after. :D But yes I will do some research on small soundbars

LG products are great, viewsonic not that great, but seems decent enough for me.
