50% off BedStory Mattresses e.g. Queen Size $200 (RRP $400) Shipped @ au.bedstory.com

801
bestprice

For example, King size of the mattress on above link is for $215 (+ free shipping) after the discount, and Queen size is for $200. The BedStory website is showing 3-14 days shipping time - I assume they must be sending via international courier.

There's a black fabric version of this mattress as well, which seems to have exactly the same specs, but the price is a bit dearer for King size which I compared with that of the white fabric version.

Interestingly, Amazon AU has this particular mattress - a slightly thicker version listed on a special price ($5 cheaper with shipping) at the moment as well but it is showing a much longer shipping time so it may make sense to order from BedStory website if you want it sooner, assuming that timelines shown on both are accurate. I personally don't mind 25.4cm (10 inch) vs 31cm thickness; in fact I reckon 25.4cm may be a bit lighter and firmer which is better for me.

There are limited reviews on Amazon AU but the US listing has many more reviews if you would like to check.

I reckon one can't go much wrong with this price and the reviews available on internet. Pretty good deal even compared to totally unbranded mattresses in the market.

This is part of Father's Day deals for 2020.

Exceptional value for these, no idea how they ship them free at this price

    • Probably by buying them in bulk in the first place.

    • +6

From having worked in retail and sold mattresses, there's huge margin in them. They can get away with shipping them free.

    • +1

Former employee at Forty Winks here for 6 years (loved it and was a great job whilst at Uni!) I can also confirm Nodeahs comment that the mark up is usually about 100% (if it costs the retailer $100 they will RRP for about $200). For these online cheaper bedding companies, I can only imagine what the margins would be if a brick and mortar store is 100%…

EDIT - I personally would NEVER recommend these types of mattresses. The quality control and warranty attached with them are very poor. Just my opinion based on extensive research.

      • Yes, it's a huge margin game. Imagine the rent they pay for those massive stores/ warehouses. Btw, which brands would you generally recommend?

        • +3

The ones I know that are reputable: King Koil, Sleepmaker, Sealy (although heavily overpriced imo due to all their advertising). Generally speaking, your national brands that are Australian made.

Ultimately you want to know what is inside your mattress. The only problem in the mattress industry is that no one mattress is the same across different retailers. They will have similarities but Sleepmaker, Sealy etc. make a specific model for Snooze; another one for Forty Winks; another for HN and so on… So you will never be comparing apples with apples when looking at different bedding stores.

My advice is try a few at a couple different stores and go with whatever feels best. Studies have shown that your body will actually know within 5-10mins of laying on a mattress whether it is comfortable/suitable for you or not. As long as you lay on it as though you would normally do when about to go to sleep. If it doesn't feel comfortable after 10mins, you're probably not going to like it.

You really need to set aside a whole day when mattress shopping.

          • +1

@CrocDundee: I usually sleep along with the sales person. They tend to jump in bed with you.

            • +2

@MuddyClear: haha - On the odd occasion I remember jumping in bed to test partner disturbance, but all professional of course!

              • +4

@CrocDundee: Bahahahaha. She jumped straight out after I asked for spooning…how unprofessional!

          • @CrocDundee: What are your thoughts on boxed mattresses?

            • @FiloGuy: Personally, I have never slept on a boxed mattress. However, I know some who absolutely love them and some who can't stand them. It really is a personal choice. Again, quality of materials inside the mattress is what's most important. From what I have read, the materials are pretty low end and will deteriorate quickly over time.

      • I am going to buy it once the lockdown is over, any advice in particular? IE: Things to avoid and things to look for? When is the best time to buy? How much can I negotiate when there isn't a sale time?

    Any owners got a comment?

    Versus ZzzAtelier?

    • +1

      Keen to know as well

    • Vs Zinus?

      • +1

I have a Zinus bedframe and I love that brand but currently they did't have any great discount on their mattresses so I went with BedStory.

      • Just received a zinus 2 days ago. So far pretty impressed. Time will tell. Had a giselle for a few years. Nothing wrong with it just upsized to a king. Zinus seem pretty reputable. Heaps of positive reviews out there.

    • +2

stick with zzz. I have had my bedstory hybrid for over a week now and it is not right, half the bed is medium the other is soft and both sink fast (be it they bounce back for the next night) making it uncomfortable.. I am a side/belly sleeper and yeah it has not been a pleasant experience from day 1… where as the zzz do eventually (within several months) hold their sinks, but are far more comfortable (especially the latex).
I gave these guys a go last promotion and am not a fan

    • +7

ZZZ Atelier are overrated, im looking to replace mine

      • +1

Yep, looking to do the same ever since I got it !

      • can you elaborate?

I'm in the market for a mattress and that was one candidate due to its popularity here.

        • +2

Serious sagging issue. Fine for about a year, but now I get back pain and it is uncomfortable to sleep in the centre. I don't know what to replace it with though. Happy to spend 1-2k for something good but I know the markups on mattresses are huge and don't want to get ripped off. An adjustable bed would be nice.

          • @nubzy: Can confirm the same, and don't buy into any X years 'warranty' c*** (it's just a gimmick)…

My next mattress will be from large format retail! My whole body will thank me.

            should be to @lostn

          • +3

@nubzy: Same here with the zzz atelier really bad sagging issues after while, back pain and uncomfortable to sleep, it was great at first. I ended up replacing it with the eva mattress so far so good, no more back pain and comfortable for now. I only had it for 4 months, so hopefully it wont turn into another crap bed.

      • +6

Agree. Our zzz has sagged big time. Wouldn't get another one.

        • how long did that take?

          • @lostn: Bought Jan '19. I'd say sagging started to become noticeable after 12 months.

        • +1

Ours sagged too. It took 15 months. I got a full refund just about 2 months ago, so pretty pleased with the outcome, however it took a number of photos, measurements etc to demonstrate that the problem was real.

        • +1

Just depends on how fat you are. If an elephant sleeps on it… it’s going to sag right? Right!

    • Gave my zzz away after 5 months of ownership. Bought a 100% natural Latex.

  • +1

I’m not sure about buying a mattress online. I mean it seems good but it just feels like you should at least sit on it once to have some touch and feel no?

    • +1

I agree but I also feel that at this price a gamble is worth it, particularly when you have access to 500+ reviews on Amazon US website. Chances of it getting too wrong are very low.

      • +2

i thought it was a good gamble also.. i was wrong

    • Online is pretty safe if you know the firmness you want (soft/medium/firm) and you google the store for the odd review.

      • That’s my problem I guess because I don’t really know how firm I would like it to be. I just know that I don’t want it soft. This one seems to be in the medium category and I have no idea how it would feel

        • +5

Soft means you'll feel the mattress around you, sort of like lying on a bed, on top of a thick doona.

Medium means your heavier parts of your body will sink a little, but the rest will be supported.

Firm is usually compared to sleeping on a futon (click-clack) couch.

If you sleep on your back or stomach, the firmer you can handle, the better.

If you sleep on your side, usually medium.

        • my hybrid was medium (that quick became soft when sleeping on it for 30 mins) and the other half was soft from the get go and so uncomfortable

          • @subboy: Was it this brand though? The reviews on Amazon say a different story..

            • @virhlpool: Yeah it this brand .. got it not long ago when the promotion was advertised previously, and also read the amazon reviews and gave it a go based on that (and the price not breaking the bank to give it a try)

    • Do a bit of research, but it's not a huge gamble. There are some online mattress sellers that offer free returns within a certain window (30/60/90 days or whatever), but those usually start at around 4x the cost of these so you're still paying for the certainty. For that price you could buy four cheaper mattresses with different hardness ratings and just keep the one that works best for you.

      • For that price you could buy four cheaper mattresses with different hardness ratings and just keep the one that works best for you.

and the environment will love you for spitting back 3 of them.

Alternatively you could… go to a bedding store and test them all out?

        • Alternatively you could… go to a bedding store and test them all out?

Theoretically you're right, but a lot of 'value' brands don't have physical stores and most of the physical stores are rip-off.

        • +1

Yeah I'm not suggesting you do it, that would be a waste. I'm just highlighting the crazy difference in price.

Do some research, buy one, if you don't like it give it to someone else (because these cheap mattress places usually don't take returns, and it didn't cost you much) and use your new knowledge to buy one better suited to yourself. You could still do that twice in a row and be better off than buying one from an expensive brand that takes returns.

        • You make it sound like others wouldnt want a free mattress, if you dont need them.

          • @MasterScythe: You make it sound like there's no deadly pandemic.

in 2020, i wouldn't want to touch anything someone else has used.

            • +1

@lostn: You wouldn't have got far in the Depression…

And heaven forbid you ever had to share a bed or a meal in A Little House on the Prairie…

              • -1

@UncleRico: luckily a highly infectious virus wasn't plaguing the world during that time.

            • +1

@lostn: Its not too scary unless we see community transmission.

And since we know it only lives 3 days on even the most ideal surface, just leave it alone for 3 days in the garage if you're worried.

Besides, its not like mattresses "go off".

Of you buy 3 to decide your firmness, you're still better off financially, and you still dont kill the environment because you can give them away later then.

There's not a deadline on giving away a free mattress.

              • -2

@MasterScythe: all charity orgs asking for used clothing, shoes and other useful items have stopped asking for them. We normally get one or two bags a week in the mail. Have not seen them all year. People take precautions.

If your mattress costs 75% less than a reputable brand, I doubt all 75% of that discount is down to the difference in return policy. There's likely a quality difference also.

                • @lostn: All of our local op-shops are still functioning fine, and are SUPER busy.

Or course they take precautions, but we know that precaution is maximum at 3 days; so, if it bothers you, pickup your goods, wash your hands after touching them, wait 3 days, then use it.

It's how I'm handling my shopping, not too hard to plan 3 days in advance.

                  • -1

@MasterScythe: i can only speak for myself. They've stopped sending bags. Used to be 2 or 3 a week. EB games has stopped taking trade in consoles.

You can reduce your risk by waiting 3 days or cleaning it, but I look after an elderly person. I'm not taking any chances. 0 is better than 0.01.

If you're going to buy 4 mattresses when you only want 1, I presume you're the kind who buys new printers instead of toners when the ink is dry?

                    • @lostn: 3 days is no trace detected, so thats safe. Not 0.01 like you imply.

And, i used to, until epson and brother came out with their eco range, so ink is cheaper than another printer.

    • If you're spending 1/3 of your life on it, it's certainly a try before you buy type thing.

Nothing like taking a good book and spending several hours lying on beds (I usually spend 30-40 mins on any bed I don't immediately hate) and finding one which just works for you.

  • Don't they have king single in America? I'm looking for a king single for the spare bedroom and annoyingly the best deals from US based brands like Zinus and this don't have one.

    • Zzz does

      • Zzz is an Aussie brand though.. @shaybisc was referring to America based brands.

  • Bed in a box?

  • Very tempted by the 31cm (12") version on the Amazon website, just trying to find confirmation of it's firmness…

    • the hybrid is anything but firm , even though thwir site states it is perfect for all types of sleepers… my hybrid out of the box with 48 hours from unboxing to sleeping found 1/2 to be soft and the other half to be medium (quick to become soft) and uncomfortable

  • They all the same feel? Cant see a Firm/Medium/Plush option.

    Payment made to
    广东玫狮家居有限公司

    Hopefully this is legit

    • +1

haha i thought the same when I saw that, but it is actually manufactured in china, it is legit

  • I ordered through amazon previously and it took 3 weeks to arrive

    • Can you comment on the quality / feel ? Thanks

    • The 31cm gel-infused as linked above?

      How do you find it?

      • +1

Sorry haven’t tried it yet as I’m waiting for my bed to arrive , I’ve heard from people that purchased these before that they are similar quality to koala

  • -3

Just another cheap chinese mattress in a box, probably costs them less than $20 to make.

    • Which one do you recommend for under $300 (Queen/ King size)?

    • -3

I've seen them on Alibaba from $30-60 a unit, I would never put my health on the line for $200 mattress which cost $30 to make.

You spend alot of time in your bed, and that's where more lower back issues arise. I would definitely spend the most I could afford on a mattress, and as I have a bad lower back already it's where I noticed the largest improvment.

      • +7

Can you link a certipur-us mattress in queen for $30-60 please?

        I'm going to buy.

      • +7

While i agree with not buying cheap mattresses of lower quality, low back issues are multifactorial, not solely from sleeping posture.

      • They are good for guest bedrooms.

      • Good for my dogs and cats.

  • +3

Ok thanks all. Pass. Not inerested in buying Chinese made in the current environment.

    • Fair enough, mate. I am not too sure if it's made in China but quite likely, obviously.

    • +12

Really? Where was your phone or computer made?

      • +1

Both Taiwan; so I guess it depends on how you consider\where you sit, on the international relations between the two…

    • -1

      Trump tell you that ?

      • +11

So wanting to minimize your spend heading to China given everything makes you a Trump fan? Come on. It's that sort of dismissive bordering on unintelligent mindset that landed the world him in the first place.

        • Read his comment again … it was nothing to do with price.

    • +5

You wont last long……..you be buying Chinese made stuff before you know it

    • +9

A lot of the mattresses are made in China , even the koala mattresses are made in China

    • fair enough. Hopefully, you don't get flamed.

    • On what grounds?

    • The pm is selling everything to china sokinda out of luck with that idea

  • I think I'll try this guy:
    https://au.bedstory.com/mattresses/bedstory-luxury-spring-ma…
I was going to try the ZZZ "Ultra Firm", but at $100 more? I'm not convinced.
a 10" unit should be firm enough anyway.

    • It's the same as the one on the main link above - just a different color, I guess.

      • 2 inches thinner.

        • Is 2 inches thinner a big deal, particularly if you need the mattress on a 'firm' side? Just curious.

          • @virhlpool: Yes, thinner is significantly firmer in all mattresses ive ever seen, tried, or researched.

    • trust me, zzz is A LOT better! I have tried several styles and whiles none of them have behaved longer than 2 years, this bedtory one was uncomfortable from day 1 and is nothing but annoying and sometimes painful (hybrid) they claim it is good for side/stomach/all sleepers but it is far from reality .. for those who weight a little and love soft.. yes it would be good

      • +1

All comes down to whether you want medium or firm. Sounds like you need firm which this isn't - most other user reviews describe it as 'medium' (not soft). I'm tempted by this one, as firm mattresses are my nemesis.

    • i love my Zzz atelier ultra firm its the perfect firmness for me i don't feel that I sink into it i'm 64kg) yet it's not hard like sleeping on the pavement like the Ikea hafslo

      • Ooo you have the ultra firm?

Would you recommend a topper right away?

Im double your weight, so its probably soft enough for me.

I sleep on my back but often roll side on.
