Need Help on Choosing Comprehensive Insurance and Road Side Assistance

hey..need some help.

i got a used Elantra last year and insurance is with Suncorp. For 780$ i got roadside assistance, agreed value at reasonable excess. I have to renew it in couple of days and i got quote from them for 1050$ for the same benefits. i was shocked and I gave a call, but, they are not budging.

Now i decided to look for other options, and budget direct is available at 580$(without road side assistance and car at market value). one of the family member has great experience with them and he is suggesting i should go with them, but suggesting to get roadside assistance from RACQ at 109$ per year which seems decent.

can someone help me in deciding on this matter. is the above thing a sensible idea? or i should stick to insurance and roadside assistance with same provider?
I have zero knowledge on cars.

fyi, others like NRMA/Allianz are available at 800$ and RACQ is available at whopping 1200$.

Try Bingle. From my experience they've been good to deal with.

    • If cars worth <$10k 💯

Woolworths gave me a great price on comprehensive insurance on my 4-year old Sonata and just quoted me below anyone else on my new Seltos Sport+.

Woolworths car insurance will price beat any comprehensive car insurance renewal notice you get if you are over 25 years old. Also gives you discount of 10% a month once on your groceries which would save me at least $300 a year. Haven't used them personally but spotted the offer recently.

I found Coles to offer the cheapest insurance on my latest renewal, and prior to that I had been with Progressive Direct for years. Seems to vary by location/car/individuals though so it's difficult to give a definitive best price/value for insurance products. And no issues at all having Roadside Assist with a separate provider. I'd actually say it's better having it with RACQ as they will likely have a better network than the insurer if you are in the middle of nowhere and something goes wrong.

I have tried a few of the cheap one, bingle is a bit painful when it comes to contacting them if you need to.

More recently I have gone with NRMA as they allow business use also without extra cost. I have just made a not at fault claim and I was amazed at how easy to process was. I got hit on the Sunday, on Monday morning 9am I was getting an assessment done, the following week it was in for repair.

Got a rental car included and the repairer took care of everything, including booking rental car and providing taxi voucher.

I did not once speak to NRMA

  • I have been with NRMA for a very long time with all my cars, motorbikes, boats and a house. I know people say you shouldn't be staying with the same insurance company year after year… but I still suck it up and pay the higher premiums.

This is purely because of the simplicity I've faced with my previous claims with them.

    1. Some dude changed lanes into me. I called up NRMA, emailed them my dashcam footage, and half an hour later I was in the clear and had booked my car in for inspections and repairs. About a week later everything was done and dusted. Also had a rental car provided for the whole time that my car was dropped off (rental car was automatically insured and I wasn't liable for any excess fees if a claim was to be made).

    2. A storm came past my place and knocked down my boundary fence. I thought it was going to be hard to claim but after a call with NRMA, an inspector was booked to come a week later. After he came, NRMA called me a few days later discussing how much the payout was and how I'd like to receive it.

TLDR; I think it's worth it to go with a more premium insurance company

Even if you stay with the same company it's often worth going through the sign-up process to see if they offer you better as a new customer. E.g. I signed up as a new customer with our car insurer a couple of years ago as the primary applicant rather than my partner and we saved $100.
