To be quite frank, I don't call these "deals". $30 per meal is not cheap. And there are many of these so called 'fine dining' offers posted up every so often on these group buying websites. This one doesn't stand out from the rest.

Typically these restaurants will give you a smaller portion size because you use a voucher.

Best way to avoid this though would be to not show them the voucher until you pay…. but do check the terms before you do this as some require you to show it to them BEFORE so they know.

No deal. Rather, I would call this advertising.

    • "$30 per meal is not cheap"

$30 for entree, main, dessert and a glass of wine isn't expensive either…

      agreed…

but the entree, dessert may not be what you want/like to have!
specially a glass of house wine… oh well!

you can't just say $30 per meal is not cheap - whether $30 is cheap or not depends entirely on the meal. a $30 meal at McDonalds is expensive. a $30 meal at Vue de Monde is extremely cheap.

FYI, The Age Cheap Eats 2011 considers $30 and under to be cheap. so according to The Age at least, $30 IS cheap.

in the case of this specific deal, i can't comment on whether the deal is any good or not…the reason being that i have never heard of this place before!!! (pretty surprising for Melbourne's so called "hottest new dining spot"!)

i would take an educated guess that $30 is probably a fair price - not bad, but not particularly great either (as you said, doesn't stand out from the rest of these sort of deals).

no deal for me. (but i wouldn't neg it…except on the basis of calling it the "hottest new dining spot").

    lol

Advanced bookings are absolutely essential by email ONLY

good luck trying to find a time/day that suits you, it may take weeks of email back and forth…

    ……..

I guess that can also be read as if you don't book via email, you don't need an advanced booking ???

    • Email is only a touch slower than sms with smartphones these days.

it depends how often they read their emails…

i usually find the 'phone' works best for these types of tasks…

"Melbourne's hottest new dining spot"? i have never heard of it…

Chin Chin, Dandelion, Golden Fields, Union Dining, The Aylesbury, San Telmo…nope: Melbourne Public is Melbourne's hottest new dining spot!

Its a bit misleading. The wording says "Take your pick from the menu" but in the small print you actually get to choose from about three starters and 3 entrées unless that is the whole menu!

Don't fancy any of the starters and only one of the mains so its not a deal for me.

You don't even list the restaurant name…. and im too lazy to click the link

    Can anyone view their menus?

    Heres the link…
    http://www.melbournepublic.com.au/mp-diningroom

When I click on the dining menu i just get a blank page with some black lines.

Doesn't seem like a very professional or "hottest new dining spot" to me.
