In case anyone had travel booked with Tiger pre-Covid and wasn't sure about the status of their travel credit (especially with the news that Tiger will no longer exist), I just received this:
Dear XXX,
Thank you for choosing Tigerair Australia.
We want to provide you with an update regarding your Tigerair Australia travel credit.
Unfortunately, we have made the difficult decision to retire the Tigerair brand given current market conditions.
We're truly sorry for any inconvenience caused. As the Virgin Australia Group owns Tigerair, we are pleased to provide you with a new credit of equivalent value for use on Virgin Australia operated flights.
New 'Future Flight' credit valid for travel until 30 June 2023
Your Tigerair credit will be replaced with a new 'Future Flight' credit which we anticipate will be available from 23 September 2020 (although this date may change) and can be used for booking flights up to 31 July 2022, with travel valid until 30 June 2023. We hope that this additional time allows for more travel and border restrictions to ease so you can plan your next trip with confidence.
The Future Flight credit can be used for booking on Virgin Australia operated flights. Your credit will also be valid for use on future services we operate as the travel market recovers and restrictions ease.
Bookings using your credit will be subject to seat availability within the fare class reserved for Future Flight credits on your selected flight and will be subject to its own terms and conditions.
This credit is part of a broader proposal by Bain Capital for the Virgin Australia Group, and is subject to the proposal's approval at a creditors meeting. Virgin Australia will be contacting you to provide more information about the proposal and details for use of Future Flight credits in due course.
You can continue to use your Tigerair credit for travel on Virgin Australia operated flights until the issue of the Future Flight Credit, by emailing the Tigerair customer support team at [email protected] and include the following details;
full name
preferred contact phone number
Tigerair Australia booking reference
new travel date to book using your conditional credit
Should we need to update the process for how you can redeem your conditional credit, we will let you know.
Please submit any other queries regarding your booking through our Customer Support Portal. Due to the circumstances, we are not able to guarantee a response time so please be patient while you wait to hear from us.
For further information please visit our website.
Yours Sincerely,
Tigerair Customer Care Team
No idea when I'll get to actually use it, but I was starting to think I'd lose it altogether when the announcement was made that Tigerair was folding so it's nice to know that's not the case.
So it would seem the Virgin travel credits are now more generous than the Qantas/Jetstar ones?
