I built a pretty beast PC a year or two ago with a 1080ti. I've noticed a few issues around the motherboard recently so with my tax coming in, I decided to replace the mobo. One thing led to another and now I've ordered a new mobo, Ryzen 9 3900x (my first AMD chip in, well, ever) and some nice RAM to compliment it. I'm not fussed that there's probably new chipsets around the corner, this will last me at least a couple years.
I'm still undecided if it's worth upgrading the 1080ti or just holding on to it until new cards are announced/prices drop. Realistically I can't bring myself to spend 2k on a video card so 2080ti is out of the question, though I can possibly bring myself to pick up a 2080 or 2070 super if a good deal pops up. But looking at specs, the 1080ti still outperforms the 2070 in certain areas so the only real benefit I can see would be RTX.
Is the performance boost (if there even is one) going to be worth it (plus RTX) or should I just be patient and stick with the 1080ti? Realistically, I won't be upgrading again for at least another year or two.
What say you, Ozbargainers?
Sounds like you're upgrading for the sake of upgrading no?
