Might need to update the game is for the Steam platform. Just a reminder EA games are now available on Steam.

    • +2

      Done.

    • "Origin account is required for game activation and installation"

So is it a steam key or origin key?

      • +2

It's common enough to have to use more than one launcher to run a game.

Likely running this game will launch Origin for you to authenticate.

edit clicking the link shows it's a Steam key.

        • +3

just noticed the steam icon on the page

          • @payton: abort abort! allyouplay.com changed the logo to Origin sometime earlier

        • doesnt use origin for me, bought this off steam during the last sale

Mine activated on EA so Origin.

    • Thanks for confirming. Had my doubts this morning that its really the steam version.
Seems allyouplay.com just changed the platform/logo on the product page to Origin sometime earlier today
The shopping cart had a warning that buyer needs to provide their EA login to claim the game (no key given out by the store).

Bought this at launch. I am either not as good as i used to be or the difficulty has increased significantly.

    • +2

The difficulty is the same as it was in the originals, in other words: punishingly unfair.

The games were Remastered with worts and all, so the AI still cheats (sees the entire map, has unlimited resources, faster build times, etc), harvester path-finding still breaks down easily, large armies get bogged down moving across the map due to intersecting unit paths and some commands have unbearable delays and/or don't register at all occasionally.

Thankfully there are a ton of QoL improvements and mods in the Steam workshop for both games already that improve on these weaknesses significantly.

That being said, with some trial-and-error I could get through most of the campaign missions on Hard (though the GDI/Soviet campaigns are considerably easier than NOD/Allies simply due to the lack of heavy armour for the latter factions).

Have to disagree there. The Remaster's original hard difficulty was too severe , so they patched it, which halved the firepower and armor boost given to the AI.

The original was ok-ish, never too hard.

If you check out the C&C Remaster speedruns, you'll see the AI is easily exploited, doesn't evaluate dangers/threats well, especially when attacked by engineer units.
Hell, the AI even happily rebuilds fully stocked silos ready for you to capture them repeatedly

        • I must have played it after it was patched then as I found it to be on par with the originals right off the bat and by that mean, an old school 90s level of difficulty that sharply contrasts with modern RTS games. I did have to retry numerous missions (GDI 8 in particular) and the janky AI behaviour didn't help things (though Steam Workshop mods can alleviate those issues somewhat).

Thanks for the speed runs channel, I'll have to check that out.

Guess that means you shouldn't jump on this deal then since it's the Origin version and has no access to the workshop :(

      • i had a much easier time with the original than the remake. Some of the maps are kind of BS.

    • I felt this too.

The original game I had no problems with. Never lost a map. This remaster I had problems with some of the maps. Was it always this difficult? Was I a pro back then or do I just suck now?

I have a feeling they retuned the game beyond the graphics. I've heard that the original game's difficulty is equivalent to Easy in the remaster and I'm playing on normal. Perhaps that's it.

Also, the AI's GDI air strikes are so frustrating. They never miss. You can't outrun the air strike. So they'll go after a key unit like your commando and you have no way of avoiding death.

Anti air is useless against the warthogs. They come in 3's and they are too tanky to shoot down before they drop their payload.

      • in the old game, the Warthog AI always targeted the northwesternmost building/unit, don't know if this exploit still works in the remaster.

        • +1

when it's a map with no base and you control a commando and a few minigunners, you can't avoid being killed.

The bombs are lock on, and they do AOE splash damage so even if you move, you'll still get hit by the AOE.

I don't think that exploit works in the remaster. There was a map where there's a river running horizontally near the bottom, and you can't cross the river so you are separated into a war on two fronts. The lower part of the river is just the starting infantry you get. The top part requires capturing and building a base, then taking out the enemy base. The bottom involves just destroying what forces they have (which includes base defenses) with the starting forces. You have to clear out both sides of the river of all enemies to win.

Thing is, most of my forces down there got air struck by the A10s. I completely cleared the top side of the river which took 90% of the map's time. Then I didn't have enough forces to finish the lower part, because air strike targeted those units. But I didn't realize that until I'd spent 90% of my time doing the top part. So I'd have to restart the whole mission and hope they don't air strike my non-reinforcable army. I never had this frustration with the original.

The original was easy. I never failed or had to restart a mission, and I don't consider myself a pro as a kid or anything. Something isn't quite the same.

There's another map where you run out of tiberium very quickly and get stuck. The next patch is very far across the map in enemy territory. You don't have enough money to do anything. And getting that tiberium is not just slow but very dangerous. I ended up building a wall all the way across the map to the enemy tiberium field and building a refinery there (you can't build an MCV). That definitely can't be how you're meant to play.

The original game I beat more than 10 times and never ran into any problems or oddities.

          • @lostn: damn, that does sound frustrating AF

The soundtrack alone is seriously impressive, Frank Klepack & The Tiberian Son's remastered tracks from C&C, RA and even a few from the Tiberian Sun/RA2/Renegade era are the best videogame OST I've heard this year next to Mick Gordon's Doom Eternal score. I especially like Act on Instinct, Bigfoot, Mad Rap, Got a Present For Ya, Command & Conquer and Hell March 2 & 3.
