HFC NBN - Can You Have 2 Different Connections to 1 House?

As the topic says. It's in a HFC NBN area, would there be any major issues to having a 2nd NBN service at 1 residential premises? Has anyone done this? What sort of time frame from request to going live was there?

Thanks in advance.

on HFC and FTTP you can have more than one connection
You will need to pay the "Subsequent install" fee for the second connection. NBNco Charges $300 i think for this .

check with your RSP (or the RSP you want for the second connection) as to what they will charge for this, when there is one service already provisioned the second install fee can not be avoided

There is no subsequent install fee for FTTP. You can have up to 4 connections for FTTP.

      • There actually is.
Used to sell nbn through a RSP if an active connection was present and we chose another port it would automatically apply the SIF from nbn.

There's a subsequent install fee if you have an existing FTTP connection?
When changing providers I've had 2 active connections without any additional fees.

          • @mattlm: Can say the SIF is applicable on HFC also as its a NBN fee.
I know that in some rare cases the system does not apply the fee, I had one instance where the fee did not come up but in every other case it did.
OP should be prepared to pay the fee and if they do not get charged it then its a win.

    • Thank you. Much appreciated.

Any guesses to the time frames? I can ask them that question but just thought, whilst I'm here… :)

Its like any NBN connection the additional port is chosen and they will configure it like any connection.
So the usual time frame (a week is the norm in most cases)

But HFC doesn't have ports… you need whole other NTD (modem) and splitter to connect both to the wall socket.

Did this the other day, took less than 24hrs for the new provider to connect. No additional install fees or anything. They automatically just register it to the second port and so on.

        • Was this on HFC ?

@Click_It: Sorry, I was FTTP. But have had mates do it with HFC. Makes gaming and streaming alot easier on busy networks. Also long as your nbn box when it was installed has the 4 ports you wont be charged a fee the provider will just select the new port

    • With FTTP , I have had 4 connnections and voice port activated all at one time. it works well. (FLEX arrrrgh) Quickest provision I saw was a sunday order and monday activation.

I have done this and have two HFC NBN at home at the moment, NBN tech needs to come to install an splitter and a new NTD for you (ARRIS CM8200). mine took around 7days from the time I put the request in with my provider, they need to book an appointment with NBN for the installation, it normally cost you AUD297.
