What’s The Cheapest 4K Blu Ray Player Atm?

I’ve finally got a decent 4K tv and I’m just wondering what is the cheapest 4K player and what I need to consider when purchasing a more expensive player?

Also, is there even much difference between 4K and normal blu-ray? Is it worth buying the 4K discs?

I think a Used Xbox One S is, if not the cheapest, is very competitively priced.

If you needed to ask if there was much difference, you would've bought a 1080p tv…

  • Consider whether you need a player at all. 4K content available on Netflix, Amazon, Disney+ etc. Just need a good internet connection / data cap as the files are huge.

    • Streaming 4K content isn't remotely near the quality/bitrate of an uncompressed 4K disc. Whether that matters or not to you is another matter but you're certainly not getting the best visual output.

      • I guess this all depends on how discerning the viewer is. I prefer uncompressed files over streaming and am happy to put good money into my TV and home theatre. On the other hand some of my friends and family aren't fussed at all between 1080p and 4K.

If OP has bought a cheap 43" 4K the difference is probably negligible. If they bought a 65" OLED, sure get a dedicated player. Though I'm guessing by the post it's probably closer to the first scenario.

        • Disks are still compressed (at least for video). Streaming is just compressed more.

  • Or wait for the PS5 😉

That'll be anything but the cheapest 4k Blu-ray player
