24-27" WFH Monitor - Best Bang for Buck

Hi guys, I need to buy my wife a monitor for WFH purposes. Have not had to buy a monitor for 10+ years so no idea where to start. Have tried to read a number of online articles and just confuses me.

Plentyy of options out there just after something which has decent specs and is generally considered a good value monitor.

PS. She works in Accounting/Finance, and I'm hoping to get something in the $200-300 range.

Recommendations please?

  • Where are you located?

  • Gumtree? Second hand ok?

  • Sorry, based in Sydney. Would prefer brand new from a retail store so can go pick it up on the weekend.

    • +1

If you go 24", get 1080p (HD)

If you go 27", get 1440p (QHD)

  • I am actually in the same boat. My old (over 10 yo) LCD monitor has died. So, I purchased 27" Samsung from one of the sales here and discovered that it is too big for me as a primary monitor. Then I tried a few used ones (22"-23") from work. They are all LEDs and no matter what I did, I could not make light warm enough to prevent eye strain.

Thinking of buying this one: https://www.mwave.com.au/product/benq-gw2280-215-full-hd-eye…

    • I prefer to go for 24" at least.

    • Interested to know why you think a 27" is too big? I went from a 23" to a 32" last year and sometimes wish I had more. I only use a single monitor set-up.

      • I always use double setup. 27" is good for spreadsheets, pictures and videos. Web-browsing is a it difficult though: big screen gives a lot of information and instead of moving eyes I have to move head all the time. Not convenient when reading. Probably this can be solved by moving the monitor away but my vision is not ideal:(

  • I compared many of 24 inch monitors but no idea about 27”s. Viewsonic VG2448 priced at $179 would be my best choice which sport vga, hdmi and DisplayPort interface and 1080p resolution. It might meet your needs.

    • Ok looks decent. Thanks.

      • The discounted price on mwave is expired. It's priced at 219 now.

  • Just recently purchased this monitor locally (SE QLD) as it what was in stock and I needed one for wife quickly - ASUS VC279H 27" Full HD IPS LED Monitor

It was for documents, spreadsheets, building diagrams and she is very happy with it. Is it the best bang for buck out there, not sure as even with help in these forums it came down to availability.

    • Can the screen move up and down to adjust height?

  • There's a 27inch dell deal on at the moment for $239 including delivery.

    • Yeh saw that, I ended up buying this and posting it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/555463

I’m not bothered. 24” is sufficient for me and also this 24” is P (professional) range vs the cheaper and bigger 27” is the E (entry) range. Will be staring at the screen all day long so prefer a better panel.

Plus the P range comes with a 3yr warranty (vs 1yr on the E).
