Boost $150 80GB Sim Starter Pack - Expiry Date Thread

Moved to Forum: Original Link

Hi all

I thought many who have purchased the $150 Boost Sim Starter Pack would like to know if they will be able to activate on the 80GB plan after 10th August 2020.

I just spoke to Boost over the phone, they clarified with me that the sim card itself may expire in 2022, however they said you cannot activate on the current 80GB plan after the 10th of August even with the physical sim pack.

They also mentioned so long as you activate on or before 10th August, you should be able to renew the same plan in future years.

I was also told, as the 80GB plan will no longer be able to be activated for new customers after 10th of August, your $150 sim credit will only be valid to use on whatever plans are available after this date.

There is conflicting information here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/549792 which indicates a Boost Rep has advised they would honor activating the 80GB plan up until the sim cards expiry date. I sincerely hope this post is correct and the information I have been given today is wrong.

UPDATE - 1/8/20

After speaking to a fourth consultant today, the information given has been updated

Apparently, the $150 sim packs can be activated on the 80gb 12 month plan after 10th of August 2020 as the sim comes with the actual recharge included. This will only give you 12 months, after that there is no further recharge regardless of when you activate.

However, they also advised that further recharges would no longer be available to existing customers after 10th of August 2020 as the plan will no longer exist.

So, if you are an existing customer who is fortunate enough to have their renewal coming up before 10th of August, then those customers could recharge before then for one more year, however after this time, no one can recharge again.

This would make sense as the website page says

CURRENT CUSTOMERS

Recharge available to customers who activate before 10 August.

Update 17/8/20

Apparently, the decision to end Boost Anytime Plus plan and introduce Boost Anytime Ultra plan has been moved from 11 August to 01 September. Hence, changing the start date of this deal to 01 September 2020.**

  • Mine just expired recently and I am able to see recharge option from https://boost.com.au/shop/150-prepaid. I see it's mentioned on the site "Recharge available to customers who activate before 10 August."

Does anyone know how long this recharge option will be available before the number gets completely disconnected? I am able to receive incoming calls at the moment but can't do any outgoing (as expected).

    Thanks in advance.

    • Interesting: Don't leave it long as the option to recharge (or so I thought) was only for active accounts i.e. existing plan not expired.
What you are saying is that you can still activate using the link that you included and after entering your mobile in there. In turn shows you the option for the $150 80GB 12month plan. True?

Best ask Boost as each carrier would have their own period before releasing the number back to the market. My guess a minimum of a month but could be as long as 6 months. Risky leaving it if indeed you plan on grabbing the $150/80GB/12Mth plan.

      • For what it's worth, I had four services in the family each on the $150/80GB plan. For every one of them, I was able to recharge the day after the credit expired without any issues. ie if a service expired at 11:59pm today, I was able to recharge the following the day with no problems.

In terms of inactive numbers, Boost's FAQ page states that your number will expire if not recharged within 6 months:

I don't know if this can be interpreted to mean that you could recharge on the $150/80GB plan any time within 6 months of expiry though, so I agree that it would probably be best to not leave it too long.
