I was quoted a price of $15-$20 at 2 key cutting businesses in Chatswood NSW to make a copy of a Chubb key like this.
Is this a reasonable price?
Seems pretty reasonable including the key.
You can cross-check with https://www.bunnings.com.au/our-services/in-store/we-cut-key…
Cheers, have checked and Bunnings don't cut these kind of keys.
It’s a lever lock key. And if a locksmith will supply and cut the key for about that price, it’s not to bad. These keys are more expensive to buy and have a lot less turn over compared to standard house type keys. Also, the machine to cut them on is different to a standard key machine.
Dad is a locksmith and I used to work for him, this comment is spot on. Solid price for that key, considering how uncommon the keys/blanks are.
Its almost as if peggie was a locksmith or something as well.
The blanks are 19/pair on ebay. You cuold buy them and hand file the profile. Otherwise your price for a single seems reasonable
I'd look at this as "$20 off the purchase of a new modern lock".
Good point.
Only exception is if there are many locks that use same key.
The one on Archer St? Just pay them and be done with it.
It is not a 'normal' off the shelf key, so seems to be the going rate if you have a couple of quotes all the same price.
