Please Suggest a PC Monitor

Hi All,
I am looking for a decent (yet as cheap as possible) PC monitor.
Due to COVID-19 the monitor supply/demand is not balanced so I wanted some suggestion from my fellow Ozbargainers please.

Requirements: Need to be a Flat Panel (VESA Mount Required), also looking for IPS screen (no VA/TN)

Option 1: 24 inch 1080p 144hz refresh rate
Option 2: 27 inch 1440p minimum 75hz refresh rate

My Current Setup: A standard 24inch 1080p Dell Monitor powered by GTX1060 6GB.
The new monitor is mainly required for WFH arrangements plus occasional gaming (mainly esport titles)

Due to budget constraint I am preferring option 1 but I am not 100% sure if a GTX1060 can power a 2nd monitor with 144hz refresh rate easily?

Thanks in advance.

Once you've gone 1440p it's hard to go back to 1080p, if productivity outweighs gaming I would go for option2

You can't really stretch games across two monitors, even if you could with Nvidia surround you wouldn't want to because of the bezels right in between but a GTX 1060 can run 144hz eSports titles without any issues. Older titles like CSGO, Overwatch will be a lot easier to run that the more recent ones like COD.

    • Thanks scrimshaw, yes 1440p monitor would be ideal for my current setup but I doubt if my budget will allow them in the current market.

Do you have any deal/recommendation for either of the above options? I saw this but it doesn't meet my requirements and budget unfortunately…
I didn't find any recent deals on monitors these days.
I have Samsung Gov Portal access but sadly they don't have any decent deal right now.

edit: don't know of any deals for IPS panels unfortunately. Maybe check back on https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/549687

        • Thanks heaps.
Unfortunately both seems curved screen and VA panels - I am after Flat screen (need to mount) and also preferring IPS as gaming is not my highest priority.

Edit - Yes already checked that Samsung Deal - most of them are sold out and nothing decent at all

          • @Bappy: Why can't you mount a curved panel? I have a super ultra wide 32:9 monitor and it's VESA mounted.

I would look for something 21:9 and 1440p but perhaps budget is limiting factor. WFH and gaming will benefit from the wider format, especially WFH if only using a single screen.

@sini180: Thanks for pointing it out, I still want to use my current monitor and would like to use a dual monitor arm. So I am not sure how a flat panel & curve panel will work out on a dual monitor arm… Hence preferring flat panels

@Bappy: One frustrating thing with dual when not the same brand or size is they don't mount in line. The VESA mount can be higher or lower. Depends how pedantic you are but frustrated me when I had a dual set-up and two different monitor brands. Perhaps 40-50mm variance in height at the bezel. Probably best to stick with two flats though and if budget stretches get two and sell the existing one.

                • @sini180: Thanks, just found the AOC 24G2 - seems tick all the boxes.

Then again you got the point, my existing monitor would not match with this - I wonder if I should buy two (wait for the next eBay sell of course).

                  I noticed this also have a 27inch variant - any experience/idea how a 1080P resolution works out on a 27inch panel?

I also found the Xiaomi 34inch which could be another option instead of buying two AOCs'

Update: Looks like AOC 24G2 and AOC 24G2E5 are similar and 24G2E5 is cheaper… first one with 144hz refresh rate, the 2nd one with 75hz - other than that both looks identical. So maybe I could use both on my monitor arm…

@Bappy: If it was me I would want two the same. Same colour, same size, same mount, etc.

I haven't used a 27" 1080p but many say the pixel density is too low at this size. I tend to agree.

If you're happy with 75hz I'd run with that. The 144hz would be nicer but sounds like you're not a big gamer. eSports would be nice at 144hz if your PC specs can keep up though.

I am on the AOC AG49 and it's beautiful. But the 1070 struggles at 1440p in most modern games. Usually drop to 1080p to keep 60fps.
