So a few weeks ago I started to hear a cricket chirping around my TV unit. This isn't uncommon for me to hear crickets chirping, so I just ignored it. Last night I went to try out a game I bought online, and the xbox wouldn't turn on, and I realised the cricket sound was actually the xbox trying to turn on. Anyway I went through the basic troubleshooting, and it's buggered.
I got on xbox support chat and as it's a few months out of warranty, they won't fix it. However after playing the ACL card and pointing out that the date they have on file is actually at least a month earlier than it should be, they are considering the request.
I spoke to Amazon (at the request of the MS rep) and Amazon actually offered to have me send back the main unit (a 1tb minecraft in mint condition which has barely seen 30 or 40hrs game time at most), but they said they can't replace it but they would refund me.
At first I wasn't that keen, as I have a stack of unplayed games, although really I won't be playing them any times soon, I have had some for years. With the new console coming out I started to think it might be a good time to pocket the money, except that I can't see myself paying 500 bucks plus for a console, and I need one with an optical drive so lockhart isn't an option (although if it did that could have sealed it).
So I went online to see if I could get a cheap second hand unit, and nothing is cheap, I would be paying what I would be getting back ($219) for a second hand 500gb that wasn't a limited edition.
So what would you do?
Take the money, they are going above and beyond refunding it outside of warranty, be happy with that, then wait for another xbox one deal.
