Earth Choice Dishwashing Tablets 42pk $12.95 @ Woolworths

260

Previously posted here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/548695

Usually $16.20 - tablets come wrapped in dissolvable wrapping.

Thanks to /u/UFO for comments in last post:

Reasons to buy these tablets:

  • Australian Owned
  • Choice ranks them #1 out of all tablets
  • Shop Ethical ranks them a B (pretty good) on social and environmental grounds

2nd place on Choice is Coles Ultra Plus Advanced [which is] cheaper than Earth Choice, but completely fails on ethical ratings with a Shop Ethical rating of F (they recommend completely boycotting the product due to its failures).

Everyone should be using these tablets… but when on sale there's no excuse!
Go stock up!

  • Are these really better than quantum/fairy?

    • +5

Better for the environment. Yes, much.
      Dishes. No, negligible difference imo

      • Thanks for the feedback. Will get these!

    • I have had no success with finish tablets, tried so many different ones and always get undissolved tablet residue left on the glasses. This has mostly been perfect.

  • The Aldi ones work fine and I recall ranked highly according to Choice a few years back.
I think you should really be aiming for <20c per tab.

Two Aldi ones… 4th and 7th (both recommended by Choice) out of 25 tablets.

Both scored relatively lower on the "red wine" score though (46% and 35% respectively). It's testing is defined as: Pre-soiled plates, with stains most commonly difficult to remove from a plate, are loaded into a dishwasher and cleaned. Plates are scanned via a spectrophotometer to detect how much soil is removed.

About the same score as any of the Finish branded ones. Earth Choice got a 61 though… so quite a bit of difference.
Ethics rankings are very similar- C for Aldi and Finish, but again… Earth Choice better with a B.

It's not just about cents per wash… spend a little more on something that's better for the environment AND cleans better. Reward good products with your hard earned coin!

The fact that it's an Australian company should seal the deal.

The tablets however, I'm pretty sure, are not made here.

But they're also not stuck in animals' eyes and jammed down their throats, so that's good enough to use these.

        • Checked it out because I was curious - tablets are made in France, not Australia.

          • @hullohullo: I don't get your point?

The money stays here mate… Australian owned company.
The product is ethical from every standpoint (animals, environment, sourcing of materials/manufacturing etc), and you're worried that the French make it so ends up cheaper here?

@UFO: @UFO: Hey, definitely not worried about the fact that it's made in France! I used to work at a fairly ethical Australian-owned company who made their products in Canada, the US, Italy, etc. so I have absolutely no issues with it.

I was genuinely curious about where the tablets were made and once I found out where it was made, I figured it may have been apt to share it. I thought it might have been a good selling point for those who think ~30c/tablet is a bit too much for a detergent. Though after a tiny bit of googling just now, it seems like a fair few dishwasher tablets are made in Europe, so that's a bit embarrassing on my part.

I personally try and purchase from more sustainable and environmentally friendly companies - in fact, all my cleaning products are from Earth Choice (of course), ecostore, Bosistos, and Organic Choice. If it's Aussie owned/made, that's a bonus, not a requirement for me :)

  • $0.30 a tablet. Pass a real ozbargainer should only buy below $.0.20.
    Haha

Time to stock up. Purchased it at full price last couple of months.

Aussie owned, but I was surprised to see they are made in France.

We have used finish, aldi and fairy before ; we prefer these over others.

  • These are good but my wallet and I are sticking with the less woke Coles ones.

  • Website’s saying they’re unavailable!?

    • +1

The site is a bit rubbish to be honest - last time it was on sale, it also said it was unavailable and the nearest stockist was 15km away. Popped into my local to pick up some groceries in my bi-weekly shop and they had plenty in stock. Not sure what's happening there.

  • Any recommendations for tablets without dissolvable wrapper? My dish washer doesn't seem to like them.
We used to use Finish Classic without issues but the current batch of ALDI ones seem to sometimes barely dissolve the wrapper

I have been using Fairy and one of the top shelf Quantum tabs over the past few months. Only used these brands as I ran out of Earth Choice and had some good deals on Fairy and Quantum. Earth Choice definitely leaves glass and crockery with a nicer feel than the others. All clean just as well as each other imo but EC feels the nicest. Do with that what you will.
