My Pay Has Been Cut by 20%

Since the pandemic peaked (around May?) my pay has been cut off by 20%, more precisely the working hours down by 20%.
I’ve been using my annual leaves to make up the salary losses but I’m wondering if any other companies are still carrying on the working hours cut to cut their expenses?

Where is the option for a pay cut, but hours are the same? Because that is happening.

    • Ouch… What industry/area is this?

I'd imagine the cost is more than monetary as that extra day could be used for wellbeing or even a casual job.

4 days extra per month across May-July = two weeks worth of "lost" time

  • There should be an option for those who are getting a pay rise like public servants.

    • Only the QLD PS got pay raise

I heard some ppl have had their pay increased as a result of job keeper, and their hours cut. win win for them

  • Mine was cut by 40% for 2 months (move to 3 days). Most of the people are now back to full time.

    I got a pay rise.

    working hours down by 20%.

It’s time hit the super fund.

  • Nope SFH

  • Self employed. Not very affected. Life goes on.

  • Luckily my pay and hours are the same. But, as the days, weeks and months go by, I fear that my employment may be at the mercy of the SLT depending on how coronavirus decides to ravage the nation going forward.

If, I had to choose, I would, take a pay cut, rather than, lose my job.

I would not get too overly excited even one's hours/pay are unaffected. COVID is not over yet, with second wave being a real possibility (take Melbourne for example). I heard from several businesses in Victoria that the second lockdown caused bigger slump in their sales (construction & fast food) than the first one. And this is before winding down of JobKeeper. So, it looks like the very early days

    • Exactly. Hold onto your butts people.

  • Im part of the essential worker category - im more busy now then i have been might whole career

  • We were just "asked" (aka forced) to take annual leave in June and now again in September- which I guess is better than pay or hours cut, but still sucks to be using annual leave just to sit around home. Particularly when there's a good chance you'll be asked to do work during your leave anyway!
