1968 RU18 Coaster Master Cynlinder

Heyo,
I was wondering if anyone knows if a1968 RU18 coaster shares the same master cyblinder for both clutch and brakes as I'm looking at a coaster online that had both of its clutch and brakes fail at the same time

It's not possible to share the same master cylinder for clutch and brakes.

    • I wonder if they are referring to the reservoir, as they can be shared. It’s like people calling the computer case the “hard drive” or “CPU”.

But even so, if it does have a shared reservoir, they still have compartments, so it’s unlikely that both would fail at the same time. It’s either the fluid has been sitting to ages, never flushed and rusted up both cylinders, or the reservoir has just cracked from age.

    • I was fairly certain it wasn't possible but the guy selling it was fairly positive they shared a common master cynlinder. Just checking Incase the older coasters had some really weird things going on

      • As pegaxs says, they can share a reservoir, just not a master cylinder, as they are completely independent systems. I think master cylinders will be the least of your worries on an old girl like that anyway.

I suspect that if you are asking that sort of question here you don’t know enough about vintage vehicles to be buying one.

    1. They are VERY different. A google image search will show you.
    2. You need a mechanic to sort this if you purchase the vehicle, as you are of the quite inexperienced variety of vehicle repairer.
