What Appliance Best Suits Smart/Wi-Fi Functions?

People love to buy "smart" electronics. I have got "smart" cooker, kettle, TV, switches for my lights & electric blanket etc.

Personally I found smart switches for my light & electric blanket are probably most used every day. It saves time and effort by just calling Alexa to switch on or off, or schedule on or off.

I have never ever used smart functions on my kettle and cooker. There is always a step you need to put in water or food in them. I have switched on or off at that time already.

As for TV, personally I think a TV stick like Chromecast could make any TV 80% smart…

What do you guys think? Which electronics worth the extra $ for smart functions?

Fill kettle up with water before bed, set Smart Timer to turn on at 6:54am.

When my alarm goes off at 7am, I no longer have to wait around in the cold for the kettle to boil in order to make coffee.

    Has changed my life.

    • Good to see that.

  • Air conditioning
    Bbq
    Pvr

    • BBQ? need to look into that..

Wi-Fi pellet smoker, you can monitor those 12hr cooks from sofa

  • $8.25 lights (switchs on as alarm with sunlight color temp, nice to have some tropical vibe in middle of this dreadful winter time), $10 heater socket (auto off at 8.30 if switched on, easy to turn on if needed when sleeping), $35 kettle (changes colour of bedroom lights when water got boiled in kettle as notification)

I didn't pay much for extra smart functions any way.

I have a voice command that turns on my PC, so by the time I get to my office it has already loaded. It saves me around 30 seconds.

  • Chromecast is fine, but I'd much prefer to have the apps built into the TV and use the remote. I've got both. My main TV has android built in so I browse and choose programs there (netflix/amazon/stan/disney). When I go to the bedroom TV use google voice to continue playing (only has netflix built in). I've recently been staying somewhere where I had to cast every time I want to use play netflix, and it just seems awkward.

And I find voice control really nice for streaming, volume control when the remote's not nearby. Setting timers in the kitchen. Looking forward to upgrading my TV and having channel control from voice too.

    • I'm the opposite, I hate having to use a TV remote just seem so old fashioned now.
It's just extra clutter than the phone can take care of, if your phone has an IR blaster a remote is totally unnecessary. Id' be happy with a TV with no smart functionality and no remote it it was $100 cheaper.
