[Resolved] Nokia BH-108 from Unique Mobiles; Has anyone else had the arm break and how did you solve the issue?

I bought a Nokia BH-108 from Unique Mobiles back around end of May 2011.

It's October 2011 now and the ear hook for the bluetooth headset, snapped.

I can't get a response from Unique Mobiles after a week of leaving messages with them.
Nokia care say for me to bring it into their care centre in the city for them to look at it, but the travel costs and time (as I don't go near the city) are discouraging.

Has anyone else had the ear hook break on them and what solution did you go with?

  • Go to UNique mobiles personally. Their get it sorted out.

  • I wouldn't hold out much hope. Googling BH-108 broken brings up a number of posts where people have complained that

    1. Its a fragile piece of cheap plastic
    2. Nokia dont seem to carry spares
    3. Those complaining (and this may only be the ones not successful) have been told its for physcial/ personal damage and they cannot be given a replacement

See this thread for the bad news

  • Okay, after I posted this thread, Unique Mobiles did get back to me. They confirmed that for this item, I am still covered by warranty but I have to go back to Nokia. I'd already checked with Nokia who also said yes, I am covered by warranty, but I have to bring in or send the item to the Nokia Care Centre, which is in the city.

However, I don't work there, nor do I pass there, so it's around $5 or more for travel costs, excluding my time too.

Then as OzPete's found, Nokia doesn't carry spares for this part :S

I've found an alternative solution though, that I am happy enough with. :)

I've got a good twist tie (It was used to wrap some cable and is covered in strong, smooth transparent plastic) and that is sufficing :P

I also swapped the speaker cover with an in-ear rubber and that's improved the background noise issues too :)

    • +1

You could just attach the whole device to your head with glad wrap wrapped around the head…

      Then send us picture!!!

Another alternative to a twist tie, could be, is a (smokers) pipe cleaner and cover it with shrinkwrap tubing. The pipe cleaner having a stronger but flexible metal thread

      • This seems to be adequate compared with a pipe cleaner.

Plus the plastic coating is easier to clean.

It just looks like the arm on the headset is a touch battered and it won't really be visible (most of it will be hidden behind my ear)

  • So, I ended up going into the city for a conference today. At the last minute, I remembered my headset and brought it along.

I went to the Nokia Care centre and received really helpful service.

They didn't just give me a new arm for the headaet. They gave me a new headsset, on the spot!

The process took maybe 20-30 mins (can be sped up a lot if you bring in your tax invoice).

All up, I'm very happy :)

    • Cool :-)

Just remember - it WILL break again.

      • I've got the good twist tie stored :)
