Hi guys, I'm tossing up some new speakers, just for casual music listening via my phone/ipad. At some point I'll get a turntable as well, so some sort of wired connectivity is a plus.
Can anyone provide some recommendations on either the Edifier 1280DB, Edifier 1700, or the Ikea/Sonos bookshelf speakers? They're all within the same approx price range - though the Ikea speaker would come in quite a bit higher if I were to buy two for a stereo arrangement.
Edifier or IKEA/Sonos Speakers?

Thanks EllwoodEpidemic.
I was mainly looking at the Symfonisk bookshelf speakers. The lamps are a neat idea but we have plenty of lamps in the house already..I'm not currently invested in any ecosystems.
I got the edifier 1700bt for $133 during amazon sales as pc speakers. Amazing value for money and highly rated by Zeos on YouTube. I didn’t want a native wifi or Bluetooth speaker, too much faffing around just for pc use.
Plan it (which this is part of). You start with 'casual listening' and then indicate that you want to get a turntable - which to me suggests more than just casual listening. Ears are not the same but I don't recommend building around an entry jack of all trades, master of none starting point.
I would suggest get what fits your now purpose now, then when the time comes for a turntable flog off/repurpose your old speakers and get new kit. General rule of thumb is that the speakers are where most attention should be directed, then get others components based on that. Use the now purpose as an exercise in getting feet wet, and you may find you have a better idea of what you want come turntable day.
Cant speak for the Ikea ones, but 1280DB from Edifier are FANTASTIC speakers. I have them in my bedroom (they might be a little light for a living room etc) but conenctivity is unbelievable. I have the TV and turntable conencted to them, plus the bluetooth. Incredibly clear sound and the range on the bluetooth is ludicrous. I'm in a 7th floor apartment and my phone connects to them when im walking through the courtyard on ground level.
I paid about $110 for the pair i think and best value speakers i've ever bought. Im now looking to build a full sonos ecosystem so they may be replaced at some point in the future unfortunately, but doubt i'll sell them. Too good.
Cheers for the reply, sounds like the Edifier's will probably suit me best right now and as g452 says I can on-sell those if/when I go for something higher end.
edit - now to wait for an OzB Edifier post…….
I haven’t heard the edifier so sadly I cannot comment on them, but I do have two of the Ikea Symfonisk lamps in stereo in our bedroom. Great sound and they look amazing, very comparable to the Sonos one/play. Not as much low range as the HomePod so there is a noticeable difference, but the Symfonisk is a great speaker for the price and being able to have it connect to the sonos environment is a big bonus if you are invested in that ecosystem already.
