Let's just ignore "if i were a rich man" because that's obviously very catchy, what about the rest of it. I can't decide if I really like it or not and need help making up my mind.
Is Fiddler on The Roof a Good or Bad Musical?

If you need help understanding it that's one thing. If you need help enjoying it? That's something only you can decide.
Personally. I haven't seen it live yet (just the movie version) and it wouldn't be my favourite. To me it's a bit old fashioned. My favourites I've seen live are Lion King, We will rock you and Spamalot.
Really wanting to see Hamilton and Come from Away, but not sure if Ill get to see them next year.Poll?
One of my favourite musical movies/stage shows. Personal preference though, up to you to decide whether you like it. I personally think some of the most famous/popular ones are terrible.
Fiddler on the Roof
sounds suspect….im calling the police
Police won't do anything. Worksafe OTOH…
Saw it in Sydney with Topal. The bad dream sequence when the character’s grandmother appears and Little Bird (sung about the character’s daughter growing up) were magical.
Like others here, I also saw it in Melbourne with Topol. At first I wasn't sure if I would like it as it is a bit different to other musicals, but in the end it was a great night of entertainment.
We did a school production and I played Grandma Tzietl. I think it is the role you give to someone who isn’t much of a singer.
I think it is a good musical because there is more to it than a bit of fluff. Quite a few of the songs are good and it is engaging emotionally. It doesn’t have big song and dance numbers, but then that would be wrong given the subject matter.
It is an excellent musical, in my opinion. It is one of my favourite musicals due to the deeply moving story, and its universal and timeless themes, which are just as relevant today – that of political and social changes and upheaval, uncertainty and survival, and ultimately the themes of love, tradition and faith – which help a people to endure challenging times.

There are many wonderful songs among the rest of it. Some may need more than one listening before they grow on you. For e.g. Sunrise Sunset, a bittersweet song about the passing of seasons and life-cycle. Matchmaker, a rather fun song. I grew rather fond of this parody of it - Maskmaker - given the times we live in, especially us in Melbourne.
Some of the lesser-known songs, in my opinion, are just as good if not better. My favourite is “Far From the Home I Love”, where Tevye’s daughter says goodbye before boarding a train bound for Siberia, to begin a hard and uncertain life with her exiled fiancé. “Papa, God alone knows when we shall see each other again” sums up her heart-break, knowing she is unlikely to see her family again in the tumultuous time they live in. Lior’s more contemporary version is here – he played Motel the tailor in the Australian 2016 production.
Another song which I like is the "Sabbath Prayer" – here is Josh Groban’s high school version.
Thanks for the link to Maskmaker
Oh, you're welcome.
A great musical, particularly the Sylvania Public School version done in 1972.
No lions were harmed in the making of this musical.
P.S. The movie version was a big disappointment. It's a stage musical.
I was lucky enough to see Fiddler in Melbourne when Topol starred in it and it was something I really enjoyed.
Not knowing you and your sense of humour I don't know if you'll like it but for sheer entertainment value it's a classic that everyone should try to see live at least once in their lifetime.
