Security cameras with mobile app alerts

Hey guys,

We have a family farm interstate and we're only there a few months out of the year. I was looking for recommendations for a security camera that would also send alerts if motion is detected etc and so we can also view the camera on our mobiles.

Any advice appreciated

  • Reolink Argus 2 with solar panel is what I have

    • This.

However you will need wireless coverage where you plan to install the camera and an active internet connection for the alerting to work.

  • Try to find ones that dont think light changes are movement… its a pain..

There are much better than what ive got but mine were all basically free or under $30 for the aus post one.

I have a Sengled Snap that replaces
a standard trumpet style exterior floodlight, it just screws in and gives 7 day 24/7 cloud recording for free, it also has a led light that you can switch on and off via the app, its alerts are a bit random but its ok, i also have a DLink DCS-8300LH that i received via redemption, its inside only, but works well, I also have a Q-See Plus QCW2MP1PTW also inside only from Aus Post, gives virtually instant alerts. All have apps that work quite well. But all pickup light change's as a movement.

  • Need more detail about what you wanna do with it. But https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/wirecutter/revi…

  • I use Swann
Only paid 160 at Jb Hi - Fi
It's wireless but you have to put it high up so no one knicks it

  • I use the Blink XT from Amazon.

  • Nest cameras - cost a bit more, maybe others can suggest compatible devices.

Otherwise it has all the features you are seeking - motion detect, phone alert, view, recording on google cloud (paid service, to see the days events), facial recognition, etc…

  • Thanks guys,

How does it transmit? I'm guessing it has a simcard in it hey? The area is pretty rural with patchy coverage but Telstra works fine.

  • +1

I use Dahua cameras with NVR for recording. You can access the live feed and recorded video with their app. No ongoing costs. The app seems to offer push notification. I prefer email alert. The NVR i bought offers power over ethernet. So no separate power was needed. Just cat5e or 6 cables from NVR to each cameras. I think you would want wired option as they gives you less trouble. Especially if you are installing it in a interstate farm.

  • I have two(different properties): Zmodo and Blink. Both of them are pretty good with Motion Detection and Night Vision. The only thing you need to worry about is your Router & Wifi. They are the ones that screw up, so invest in a good Router as well.

    • Hi mate, Im not sure if a router is possible as it's pretty rural, and currently no phone line. Is a landline a prerequisite?

      • Ah Sorry Shane, I missed your comment earlier. So, all these Security cameras require some sort of Internet connection. The only option I could think of is getting a Telstra (or any other provider) 4G Dongle. That will cover the Router and Internet Connection part for you. Just call these ISP guys and ask if they have 4G towers around your area.

        • Thanks will look into it :)

  • You should look at the Telstra Arlo Go with solar panel. It uses a 4G embedded SIM card and can set sensitivity. And give you alerts to your phone.

This means no 240v power or modem needed. It’s all in one.
