150

Just noticed this deal at BWS in NSW.
Dan's Member offer is $18 for 6pack

Stones Ginger Beer is a fantastic thirst quencher. It has a punchy ginger bite and a refreshing taste that is sure to go down perfectly after a hard day in the garden when water just won't do.

  • Is this as good as Matsos?

    • +1

Personal preference really, I think this is better but some others swear by Matsos

  • +1

As a big drinker of ginger beer, I find stones to be down the bottom in my preference. However at this price it is probably worth a shot. Although stones is discounted fairly regularly compared to something like Matsos.

For reference, I like lick pier the best out of all ginger beers. However the most ginger beer I seem to drink is the fat pixie hard ginger beer given the massive price error discounts from a while back where I scooped up a couple of boxes. Will probably not have another one of those for a loooooong time once they are all done!

Any recommendation for something heavy on the ginger? Really liked some ginger drinks with a bit of a burn I've had overseas, don't seem to find them here

      • One of my favourites with a strong ginger bite is Buderim ginger beer

Fantastic taste, light and refreshing. I agree with the others that stones are definitely down the bottom for my preference.

Pricey but the Brookvale union ginger beer is quite nice too, but find It very gassy

I loveee brookvale union ginger beer. Got enough bite but hardly see it at good price.

        • Had that last week. Love Buderim Ginger products. I grew up on it (& home made ginger beer). Have some most days.

But not this - the alcohol content isn't from brewing like ginger beer, but from adding (11%) Vodka to bring it to 4.5% alcohol content!
It's more a ginger cocktail or something, but not true "ginger beer".

Easy to buy the main ingredient - Buderim Ginger cordial (reduced sugar for best ginger taste) from Woolies for $4/750ml. Made with good Qld ginger juice & ginger syrup - still a bit too sweet.

Add your own alcohol (my Winter favourite is Jameson Whiskey) & soda water if you want a similar result with bubbles. I just have it over ice. It's still not true ginger beer, but a nice way to drink ginger.

Add more (or less) Buderim Ginger cordial for your desired level of ginger.

        • Buderim ginger beer - hmm hmm, will try that.

Just bought 2 x 6 packs of Stone Ginger beer from BWS this morning and will try it tonight.

      • Royal Jamaican has got a decent bite to it. It took me by surprise when I first tried it. It’s not what I drink all the time, but it’s good for a change now and then.

      • To be honest, I haven't had one that has had much of a burn in Oz.

You can always do a bit of DIY to fix that somewhat - get some of the Buderim Ginger Beer concentrate/cordial from the supermarket, and add a shot to your favorite ginger beer beverage ;)

      • I think the lighter in alcohol content the heavier the ginger beer taste. Brookvale as listed below by others is "bitey" but I don't like it that much given the low alcohol content.

Of course probably the best ginger beer to drink for that full blown ginger taste is alcohol free!

        • I remember at a market once being offered a little shot glass sample of some ginger drink. It had a curious tagline which stuck: "with the kick of two very angry mules" - it was Non alcoholic but pretty strong!

  • fantastic thirst quencher

It's actually designed to make you more thirsty so it's not a good drink for hydration purposes after a hard day. Great taste tho.

  • I think this stones is just okay. The best tasting one is Stones Original Ginger Beer. It is usually quite hard to find. It used to cost $100 a carton but a quick look shows it is now $50 plus delivery (about $15)
