1Form and TenantOptions 'streamlined' rental application forms (I HATE IT)

Have you guys had experience with this new standardised form of applying to rental homes? Is this the new norm? They ask a lot of questions about previous job refs, previous places you resided in, current referees, personal referees etc. I have rented before but not through a real estate agent so I am not sure if these questions are the norm or not?

I just feel that they are very intrusive… and hesitant to put the application in.

Let me know your experiences if you have any.

  • Just put n/a in any field you don't thik is relevant to the application. Agents use them because it's easier than developing their own system.

You’re applying for a place to live. The owner have every right to make sure you are able to support your stay there.

I know for me I feel its ugh, asks a billion questions which makes me question the streamlineness. I feel the better agencies I've dealt with ask for a lot less stuff but talk to you a little more (ask who you are, what you're like etc). I feel like references for example are kind of silly because you'll obviously just get some mates to do it.

I also am not a huge fan of giving out my managers personal number and would rather give a different type of evidence (like recent payslip or something), I do think a lot of information is important but some become a bit much. One I'm filling out right now the agent is really trying to push me to apply, but on the site I have to give my current real estates agent details, 2 friends of mines details, manager details, my details, address for the past x years and I'm only on page 2 of 9. Has stopped me for applying.

Considering how much the guy was pushing people to apply, I have a feeling agents are going to be a bit more leniant due to covid for the next few months due to the decrease of intl students applications (at least for studios) and people less wanting to move and jobs going down.

I prefer the one standard form than having to fill in the same info over and over again with agencies who dont use a standard one.

I found it was fine for the reason others have mentioned, that you only have to fill something out once.
I actually did a little story and added pictures of my furbabies which helped show how non-threatening and cute they are. Also gives you an opportunity to show that you're an intelligent person who can string sentences together etc

Are you saying that people with low education and a guaranteed government income aren't as deserving of a place to live?

      • I'm actually not sure if you're kidding or not.

  • So you want someone to rent their biggest investment to you and you don’t wanna prove your income or tenant history?

Let’s put the shoe on the other foot. If someone wanted to borrow your car, let’s say you owned a Ferrari, would you wanna see their driving history? Or just let them borrow it based on their good intentions?
