PayPal Sending Overseas

I should know by now but i always forget when it comes to paying to places overseas.
im looking to place an order but for now its only a deposit. Its not available till december so options are pay full price now or wait till closer to then and pay deposit now and remaining later.
I prefer the deposit now as secures my item which is not refundable of change of mind which will not happen.

But as they need 50 euro when i go to my paypal and enter there email and put the amount of 50 euro it tells you what amount in aud i pay to left of it.
Obviously this is for what paypal will charge you but i select my card and as its fee free it will be what my card exchange rate is.

My question is as its goods and services am i right in saying the amount i enter of 50 euro is not what they get right? Or do they?
As its bit confusing as it says you send 50 euro but im sure from experience it never is?
As seller im sure gets hit with a fee.
But why would it say your sending 50 euro and it might not? I dont want to send less than it should be.
This always gets me confused and have forgot.
Thanks

Are you sure this is a reputable place you are ordering from? They don't tend to request manual payment via Paypal… Sounds like a potential scam.

To answer your question, they will receive 50 Euros and you pay all charges on top.

You can enter the amount you want to send them in the box and it'll calculate the AUD cost: https://i.imgur.com/JI8caxh.png

I still advise caution as this doesn't seem a legit way to pay for something months in advance.

    • Its not a scam i have purchased from them for years but are becoming more greedy since days i started buying.
They dont have to sell to international customers but they do and have been for years now as its a bigger market.
I have had issues where item come damaged and replaced the item if could and refund me on another damaged and told me to keep.
They are offering a option to put down deposit on an item or pay in full as. Item not be available till about december and still to be made.
On there site yes i could pay it outright but i rather just go with deposit for now pay later.
For this i would have to select bank transfer to make the order and they said i can just pay with paypal deposit.
But when you go to paypal and your paying goods you get aud on left and euro on right.
If i enter 50 euro tells you what you pay in aud on left.
But you are aware that when sending payments your seller would be hit with fees.
      Thats how i see it.

  • After looking into this i tried a german paypal calculator and not sure if this would be right.

This was from a german calculator to workout what needs to be paid with paypal as this payment is going to a businesses and from my paypal here i take below is correct?
This will be done by entering the amount to send which really is false from paypal, as they say send 50 euro and what it would cost in aud to the left.
But im sure the person does not even get that 50 euro as paypal takes a fee from it.
Obviously im using my fee free card as they offer the better exchange rate than pp.

But this is what i get from a german calculator..

    Amount of money received:53.45
EUR PayPal border crossing fee (3.30%):- EUR 1.76 PayPal fee for receiving money (2.49% + 0.35 EUR):- EUR 1.68 Remaining amount after deducting all PayPal fees:
    EUR 50.01

In other words for me to send 50 euro i need to send them 53.45 euro and that will get them the 50 euro they need. Seems alot of fees a cross border fee and another

  • I seen your screenshot there and thats what i see but im sure from experience but its been a while that is not what person gets as pp takes a cut. I would not be using pp but pay with my card with pp and get a better exchange. I just need to be sure they get right amount.
Likes of f&f there is no fees within australia but is when sending overseas.
But pp has always charged fees for goods and im sure what your screenshot shows me and what i did also im sure they dont get that amount.

    You’re over complicating it.
Pay them 50 Euro, forget about the fees. Any fees Paypal charge the seller are incorporated into sellers cost of doing business.
Make sure you pay in Euros so the currency exchange is done by your credit card. Don’t pay in $AU using PayPal’s exchange rate.
Alternatively you could use Transferwise or Currencyfair to pay 50E directly into their bank account. That might be more straightforward for you because the small fee is paid at your end

  • Make sure to check the option to have your PayPal charge converted to Aussie by the card issuer - not by PayPal otherwise you will get hit with the 3% conversion fee

  • Worked it out in the end even if you enter 50 euro and it tells you how much in aud sending as goods the seller does not get the 50 euro, i
thought it was the case from memory so used a german calculator and it worked out i had to pay 3 euro odd more which i did and they got the right amount.

I also used my card fee free which saved me as well
