Apple Care+ Coverage for Apple iPhone SE 2020 128GB

Hello,

I have recently purchased an "Apple iPhone SE (2020) 128 GB" from THE GOOD GUYS. I haven't purchased Apple Care+ yet but I can still purchase it within next 37 days.

Do you think it will be worth buying Apple Care+ for $129? THE GOOD GUYS told me that the iPhone already comes with 2 years warranty (1st year from Apple and 2nd year from THE GOOD GUYS).

I keep my mobiles very safely. I always have screen protector and cover on and use it responsibly. So I don't see any issues in future due to mishandling. And I work in office environment. However accidents can happen.

Thank you in advance.

Like all insurances, you need to weigh up the pros and cons and the risks as they apply to you.

    My answer, no.

Apple care is worth it if you value your time. A friend had a problem with their iPhone after a long holiday overseas (suspected water ingress). They dropped in to the store and showed them the issue. Then they walk out with a brand new box in a matter of minutes. Try doing that with any other brand.

      brand new box

      What good is a box?

      • New iPhone and accessories.

apple cares terms and conditions state that it does not apply internationally

      • The iPhone was purchased in Australia.

  • I bought the exact same phone a few months ago, for my daughter. As it has the potential to be dropped, etc I decided to get the Apple Care+. Haven't had to use it yet, and I hope I don't have to. If it was going to be my personal phone, then no, I probably wouldn't get it. However, that almost guarantees that I would drop it or damage it in some way, doesn't it. :p

  • How long do you keep your phones? If you plan on keeping it for longer than 2 years, I would grab Apple Care as you get a free battery service as part of the service now, so even if you don't need to use the insurance aspect of it, you get some value. In about 23 months or so, take it to Apple and get the battery service and you'll have better battery life when it is usually getting worse.

Battery replacement is $79 for the SE, and Apple Care is $129.

If you keep it for up to 4-5 years you probably only need one battery replacement. If you’re planning on keeping it beyond that, then you will probably need two and it works out cheaper.

      • But battery replacement only cover within the AppleCare+ warranty period?

Definitely a no for me, save the $129. Unless your prone to being super clumsy.

The SE won't cost as much to repair vs the iPhone 11 pro max. Apple care+ do have 2 accidental breakages every 24 months with an excess of $49 for screen or $149 for other damage. So to me for the SE that ain't worth it, kind of defeats the purpose as it is supposed to be a "budget" iPhone.

My suggestion is invest in a decent case and tempered glass screen protector since the screen is flat then your good to go. Something from Spigen for cases and try the Nuglas tempered glass screen protectors. Watch out for fakes though!

    Happy hunting!

  • apple care+ is useless until you need

I drop things alot, so i bought apple care + .
You said you are not, so don't buy it.

Things to note manufacturers warranty only covers manufacturing faults. AppleCare+ covers accidental damage.

SE2 screen repair from Apple is $219 without AppleCare+ or $45 If you have AppleCare+

If you do happen to crack your screen and use a 3rd party repairer Apple will never offer service for your phone.

I think AppleCare+ can be paid monthly now and extended at the end of 24 months for an extra year.

Home insurance can cover things as well if you have it. If it’s cheaper would depend on your policy.

  • I think its worth it for peace of mind/accidental damage. I have a screen protector and drop proof case however a bottle of water leaked throughout my backpack and got into the iPad, $65 later (accidental damage fee) I walked out of the store with another.

Also worth noting whilst the Australian Consumer Law coverage remedies technically are followed up through the retailer Apple now applies two years warranty regardless.

  • Credit card insurance may cover accidental damage. I'm about to buy the same phone from Apple using ANZ Platinum. It costs a little more than using Ozbargain hacks, but not $129.

  • Was worth it for my iMac, onsite service. Have it on my kids phones but never for me or wife.
OP you can pay it monthly now.

  • Also if you have Apple Care+, you have access to Express Replacement for warranty related defects or damage. Well worth it for me as making appointments at the Genius bar (often few and far between) then still have to wait 15 minutes in a noisy packed Apple Store isn't my idea of fun.

Often works in your favour if you use Express Replacement as they ship you an 'as brand new' unit with 100% battery health. Good if you have a battered up device with a broken screen… all they'll do if you take it to the Apple Store is replace the screen and leave you with the battered chassis.
