$1500 Dollar Hardship Payment if You Get COVID in Vic

There are thousands of people out there that go through child birth and having kids they don’t want or care for to get some government cash. How many people you think are going to be running around the western suburbs of Melbourne licking door handles over the coming weeks?

Well no one was going to do that until you suggested it.
You should’ve posted this as a deal

Only if it is a new Build Gingerbread House…

    Otherwise, nuh.

AFAIK people can only apply for that if they’re not on jobseeker or jobkeeper, so there might be some rather disappointed coofers in a week or two.

    Why just the western suburbs?

Easier to drive towards in the mornings with the sun behind you.

      • But then the people driving at you have the sun in their covid-ridden eyes…..

You may be eligible for the payment too if you have to self isolate due to either being:

    • a close contact or
    • not having access to sick leave (casual/contractor/none left) and you are waiting for a test result.

53% of people who had been tested did not self isolate at home. This is far too high. If you are waiting on a test and are concerned about money, please look into the payment.

Edit: It has been clarified on 23/7 by the Vic Premier that anyone who has no access to sick leave is eligible fora $300 payment whilst waiting for their test.

This is why they got rid of the testing spot at Chadstone Shopping centre. There was too many morons getting treated and then going into chadstone, or getting tested after coming out of chadstone

      • They shouldn't have set up testing at Chadstone for that reason haha. Can't believe the stories of how idiotic people are.

      • Its not that reason the main reason was the huge gridlock the traffic caused .

    • So this is an incentive to get tested? Where is this money coming from?

      • +1

This is an incentive to not go to work or the shops (or anywhere) once you have been tested until you get your result, as 53% of recent positive cases have done in recent weeks.

No idea where the money is coming from specifically, but somewhere in Gov.

    • This is only in place for people that are directed to get tested/directed to isolate by the DHHS.

The average person can’t access this if they choose to get tested because they feel unwell, at least that’s how it was last week.

This was all in yesterday’s press conference, I would advise everyone to watch it. It is available to anyone who has been tested and has no access to sick leave.

They want that 53% to drop, and have noticed it is a trend with those who typically work in places where if they do not go to work, they will not get paid. So these people have recently rocked up to work sick. They are trying to encourage everyone to get tested then stay home, but not lose out financially.

Edit: It has been clarified on 23/7 by the Vic Premier that anyone who has no access to sick leave is eligible fora $300 payment whilst waiting for their test.

        • It was also mentioned either last Friday or Monday just gone (from memory) but as of yesterday the DHHS website still reflected my experience. Hopefully they are updating the scheme to those genuinely in need.

It was just announced that people that aren’t directed by DHHS can now get a $300 payment for self isolating, if test is positive then people can get the $1500.

@mapax: I just came on to say this, thanks.

  • I think it is a good incentive for the purpose it is intended.
Such a pity that it is needed to encourage people to do something sensible.

I feel you would have to be really desperate for money to risk your life and those around you by getting COVID for money, as you've alluded to in your post.
