First Gaming PC - Tech Fast Vs Part Sourcing

Have decided to finally build a decent rig for gaming and am at a crossroads whether to by pre-built or purchase parts individually and have umart in Brisbane make the pc.

This deal is tempting - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/552097

However I would have to make upgrades to the motherboard and psu to get them to a respectable level. I have m.2 ssd’s ready to go so the rest I’m ok with.

Using pcpartpicker I can compile a pretty nice collection of parts however I’d feel more comfortable knowing it was in good hands for the build rather than doing it myself.

Has any debated the same options and opted for either or?

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to reply.

Build it yourself, really isn’t hard

  • before build system, have you decided which game will you play?
    If you haven't, dont buy.

    • Valorant, warzone, Dota 2, cyberpunk

Building your own system is pretty much idiot proof these days.

The only issue you may experience is if you get a part thats doa, then its quite inconvenient.

    • I think ill give it a try. I’m sourcing better parts for a cheaper collective build too.

  • However I would have to make upgrades to the motherboard and psu to get them to a respectable level.

    Nope.

    • I meant upgrade from the base offering with the tech fast deal, increasing the price from $1799 to circa $2100.

    BYO

You might as well BYO if you're going to upgrade the MB and PSU anyways

There are so many guides out there on how to build your PC - LinusTechTips for one.

Build your own and take your time. You'll enjoy it and possibly save more money/get better parts compared to vendors.

message and ask Techfast for a quote, because prices are low now, but will probably go up with more lockdowns all over the world. Maybe umart will match or not. It is easy to build, but I can understand wanting warranty etc.

    • Great idea - some of my parts are from umart too - worth a try to see if they’re able to match

  • If you've got time to look for deals. build your own. I built a complete rig for just less than $2k Oct/Nov last year and Techfast couldn't come close. I sourced most of my stuff from ebay plus and amazon. Ebay plus I lucked into the $50 giftcard for $49 signup combined with their 20% off sales they used to have regularly it couldn't be beat for prices on components, I was also lucky to get a 5700 xt gaming x from FTC while their insane prices lasted $599. Case and power supply (650w gold) bundle for $130ish. and 2700x from amazon for $199. Samsung 1440p 144hz 1ms 27". I was able to even get a decent keyboard and mouse (tecware phantom & logitech mx518) included in my budget. 1tb pcie 3.0 3gbps write, x570 aorus, 32gb 3200mhz cl16 rgb, 5 argb fans with controller. I'm probably going to upgrade cpu with the new gen.

    • Yeah Based on the advice here it’s made the decision to build obvious. Your build sounds amazing for the price

      • My advice would be to check on here and to hold out and buy stuff when it's a real bargain. your patience will be rewarded.
