Kogan Drop DSLR Prices - Plus Selling DSLR Lens - Nikon D5100 + Lens $659 Plus $29 Metro Postage

630

So… after making the soul searching decision to get my first dSLR camera last week (Nikon D5100+lens) it seems that the price has dropped around $100 and the postage is a lot more reasonable now at $29 for metro areas, typical…

It also seems that other camera has had discounts as well
Canon EOS 600D + Lens=$729 with free shipping!!

also from memory, in previous Kogan deals discussions some people were wanting Kogan to sell DLSR lens which they are now doing. I'm not sure if they are the best price or if the lens are any good but they are now selling.
http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/category/-dslr-lenses/

I can't get my money back for buying my camera last week so I hope to cheer up knowing i helped other people.

I know it's the wrong thing to say in Ozbargain but: money comes and goes, no regrets

    • +2

money comes and goes, but memories stay, that's why we need cameras

lol, is that UNSW student number :P
        sorry to be off topic~

lols… looks like a post grad UNSW number ….

    • +2

yeah I agree, I had used my SLR so much over my weekend trip to Sydney (such as awesome place to take photos!)and don't regret getting it. but I do however kinda regret looking on the kogan site :P

  • +3

Don't know about the other lenses but the price for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm F1.8 is very good. Just bought one last week for $250 to go with my new D5100 which was the cheapest I could find at the time.

    • +1

Surprisingly cheap! I paid $230 for mine not too long ago.

    • +1

Yeah, been meaning to pick up one of these for a while and, jeez, at $198 delivered…

  • +1

kogan has 7 days no question money back guarantee. Ask them to refund the difference or return it for full refund.

    • thanks sharp! i had no clue.. i sent them an email requesting this so hopefully it all goes well.

  • WOW - this is a pretty hot deal imo

I bought the D5100 + lens (18-105) from HK grey importer for just above $1K about 4 months so this is a very good deal in comparison (sigh)

  • Please help me choose - Nikon5100 + Lens or Canon EOS 600D + Lens. Which one is Better camera and lens?

    • +2

      Go for Nikon 5100

    • +2

Depends if you want stills (nikon) or video (canon). Thats the basic difference for a tech noobie like me

    • Nikon 5100, I'm loving mine.

    • +1

Canon 600D Rocks! Check Digital Rev youtube channel helped me pick ;)

    • +1

Agree with bob_wangkar. But, other thing to consider is if you have any friends/family already with one, might be good to stick to same so can share gear. Both are good (but Nikon is better ;) )

    • yeah camera v video is big difference. Many reviews on the net, but here is an interesting head to head. http://snapsort.com/compare/Canon-600d-vs-Nikon-D5100

  • Thanks OP.. Does anyone know if these cameras from Kogan comes with a genuine ABN tax invoice? MIght utilise the 10% TRS on top of the price…

    • No you cant. This is grey import. Youll be invoiced by kogan HK with no GST.

  • Although it says "AVAILABILITY Usually dispatches within 3 business days" at the top of the page, it may say at the bottom of page that the product comes from HK and takes 2 -3 weeks to arrive.

    • +1

Nope, people from whirpool forum feedback that the delivery normally only takes less than 5 days.

    • Nar, the delivery was pretty fast from hk. Mine did come by fed ex so no issues.

      • Chongy, did it come with a camera bag or just a "bared" camera?

        • the camera and lens came in a proper Nikon box, it does not include a camera bag with the camera or the lens.

the only difference i think is that i'm pretty sure they throw in a powerpoint adopter to change the charger from china sockets to Aus. and the user's manual was also a bit strange because it was plainly printed in B/W with the spine stabled in… i'm assuming that they might go through each one and swap the manuals from the "Chinese" version with their photocopied "English" version… kinda a bit annoying when i'm using it alot to learn and it is getting tattered and torn…

        • haha, thanks. I heard many of them are "Japanese version", depending on the language in initial setup. So they photocopied english manual and throw into it.

But as long as they are from the same factory who cares.

    • My 600D kit from Kogan arrived early in the morning on the 4th working day.

  • Nikon AF-S DX Nikkor 55-300mm f/4.5-5.6 G ED VR Lens - $329 (+$20 delivery, or free Brisbane pickup) is available elsewhere, so Kogan is not such a good price.

  • Really good prices. Considerably cheaper than B&H photo, which has always been my benchmark…

  • Kogan is really coming out into the market now. I discovered them from an ouffer deal and purchased a triple cyclonic vacuum cleaner. It's a pretty decent vacuum cleaner for the price i paid.

  • Nice price on the Canon 10-22mm lens at $749, and their SGS2 unlocked phones at $519 seems a bit cheaper than I remember them being too.

  • I could be wrong but I think the prices just updated to reflect the better exchange rate?

  • DWI are cheaper…

    • +1

DWI are over $60 more expensive delivered for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm F1.8. Having gone through DWI website comparing prices on different Nikon things previously, didn't find them cheaper at all and bought elsewhere.

  • Any non "Kongan" brand is most likely going to be a "grey" import - as per T & C - in line with that it is cheaper here: http://www.techrific.com.au/nikon-d5100-dslr-afs-1855mm-vr-d…

Some Products You Order on the Website are supplied by Kogan Australia, and some Products You Order are supplied by Kogan HK. Products which are supplied by Kogan Australia are the Products which carry the brand “Kogan” and associated ancillary items such as extended warranties, cables, cabinets, keyboards and wall mounts (“Kogan Products”). Products which are supplied by Kogan HK are those Products which carry brands other than “Kogan” – these may include, but are not limited to, Products which carry the following brands, “Canon”, “Nikon”, “Apple”, “Samsung”, “BlackBerry”, “Motorola” , "HTC" and “ASUS”, and associated ancillary items such as SD cards, cables and extended warranties (“Other Products”).

I thought this was given, given the price. Oh, and above, how Sharp says "No you cant. This is grey import. Youll be invoiced by kogan HK with no GST."

  • I was actually thinking of buying the canon EOS 550D twin lens kit. Having done some homework online and comparing the prices, I found that Kogan were very competitive at $779 for the twin lens kit & $39 sydney delivery. There were other online companies that have it listed cheaper however it is the Japanese version (Kissx4) and I was not interested in getting a grey import. But now reading this I'm sceptical if this one listed is also a grey import if it is supplied by Kogan HK. I just sent an email to Kogan customer service to confirm if it is the Japense version.

    • It will be a grey import sourced from somewhere in Asia, branded 550D. If it was branded Kiss X4 they would have to list that in the description.

      • I got a reply back email saying "Our Canon products are EOS branded and are not Kiss or Rebel models."

  • So if its indeed grey import, does it come with local warranty at all? Seeing its from hk?

How can kogan sell stuff without warranty?

    • It doesn't have a warranty from Canon/Nikon outside wherever it originally came from, but if you read the page it's got a 12 month warranty from Kogan Australia. I expect that they would also have all their regular obligations under the Australian Consumer Law since the first you hear of Kogan HK outside of some tiny print on the page is when that name's on the invoice after purchase.

The Kogan HK rubbish is just a way for them to dodge the GST.

    • This had been discussed in previous thread regarding SLR deals from kogan. Someones call Kogan and was responded that should your camera at fault kogan will replace it or send it back HK for repair, they'll pick up locally though.

  • The prices did drop in last 20 mins. Just got a 550d with 18-55mm for $599 (plus $29 shipping) as a pressie (it was $649 plus shipping half an hour ago). Thanks.

  • What's the big difference between D3100 and D5100?

    • +4

D5100 uses the same (Sony) sensor used by its big brother D7000. D5100 is a looooooooooooooooot better camera. More Af focus points, Autofocus video, better more flexible screen, Better Hi-ISO for indoor shooting etc….

  • I got a super good deal of very close to 1k for a 60d a few months back. Now they are $829 @ Kogan. Good deal & great camera :)

  • Sneaky… I think Kogan has changed the price of the D5100 from $599 to now $649
    On this page:
    http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/category/dslr-cameras/
    It says $599
    On this page:
    http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/nikon-d5100-body/
    It says $649

Prices at Kogan changes quicker than stock exchange market! :)

  • The canon 550D + twin lens kit also just got a price change from 779 to 809!!!

  • Yeah the camera I was looking at was back to the price it was before they lowered the price again. Negative from me :(

  • Does anyone know when this sale/pricing will end?

    • already?

    • it already has, no problem the price is still quite low. If you want it cheap I would still get in quick last time Kogan had these on sale they kept on raising the price. However in a matter of time they will probably have them out cheaper than they were. It's time to play the waiting game (:

      • The 600D is selling for $609 and body +18-55mm lens is going for $729 on "special" with free delivery. Unless it was cheaper than this before hand???

        • In OP's first post 600D was at $729 so no change for this model.

  • -7

What's the point. I heard that the SLR camera on the new IPhone 4GS is better than these digital camera. They have something called Retina. Can't wait to upgrade from my Nokia.

  • dodgy… gone to $689 now. no deal for me then.

    • Wth $689 now not gona buy from them was thinking at 659! why the quick change?

  • Yes very dodgy and unethical in my opinion. People need time to do their research and make decisions before placing orders, and usually this takes some time. And when Kogan changes their prices suddenly they disappoint most of those people who were about to place orders.

I think Kogan is doing themselves harm by such practices, people are developing bad and negative attitudes towards Kogan when they find that the price has changes and in most cases will change their mind and will not buy.

I hope Kogan is having an eye on this post and read the comments; I hope they read my comment and think again about their pricing strategy.

    • -1

Those grey import cameras price always change due to currencies influcture.

      • +2

A $50 sudden price increase on a $180 lens is more than a currency fluctuation issue…

        • its no longer $50 rise, its now $80 more, very disappointing and yes currency hasn't changed much still 1 AUD = 1.02 USD last few days and they changed

    • Well it keeps you visiting their shop and wait for their deal, sounds like a great strategy.

  • Pices to date are still going up!

  • No gonna bother unless prices go back down again.

  • +1

    OMG http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/nikon-d5100-kit-single-lens-vr-…

$739 now that's crazy GONE UP YET AGAIN! Kogan you disappoint me
